According to the Times University Guide 2021 and the Guardian University Guide, the University of Hertfordshire is placed 99th and 103rd, respectively.

For their outstanding academic achievement in the UK, the University of Hertfordshire has been given a Gold award in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF).

History

In the UK, the Hatfield College of Technology was founded in 1952, predating the founding of the University of Hertfordshire. When Hatfield College of Technology began offering honours degree programmes in engineering and technology, it changed its name to Hatfield Polytechnic. The Teacher Training Colleges of Wall Halls and Balls Park merged to establish the Hertfordshire College of Higher Education in 1976.

The Hatfield Campus erected a sports facility and welcomed more than 5000 students to its campus in 1984. Hatfield received polytechnic certification from the Council for National Academic Awards in 1988, making it one of just 21 institutions to do so at the time. Hatfield obtained another certification for its research degrees later that year. 

More than 25,000 students from more than 90 nations attend the University of Hertfordshire's two campuses spread across the United Kingdom. The University of Hertfordshire is one of the top-ranked universities in the United Kingdom and has earned a gold TEF award.

Student Life

For students seeking a vibrant social life, the University of Hertfordshire's location in Hatfield is excellent. The University of Hertfordshire's two campuses in Hatfield are about ten minutes away by foot, bicycle, or shuttle bus. The population of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, is close to 30,000. There are many bars there, including The Forum, which is a favourite among students. In spite of its small size, the town plaza offers a farmers' market and a monthly market.
