In this course we had the chance to see what the greatest thinkers throughout the history had came up with. Also, we formulated a better understanding of mythology and tragedy. It is not like memorizing the history of our ancestors, but understanding them and comparing their lives to ours to come up with some conclusions. We can clearly see that human nature hadn’t differ so much.

For example, when we studied the Greek mythology most of us laughed at those people who believed such things. However, myths haven’t disappeared from our lives. If we look carefully around us we can see that we believe in a lot of things that are not proved scientifically and nobody knows its source. Those myths are used for the same reason they were used before which is for humans to explain things they don’t understand.

Besides, tragedy is a very beautiful and heart touching chapter. I have heard before the story of “Oedipus the King”, but it turned out to be that we were told the story the wrong way. As I have heard it before Oedipus is a stupid and psycho who killed his father and married his mother. However, the story had a moral which is you can’t escape your fate and even running away from you fate helps it being achieved.

The philosophy part is my favorite since the questions those philosophers try to answer are always on my mind. For example, Socratic ignorance taught me that us humans know nothing honestly. However, we continue to tell ourselves and others that we are knowledgeable and wise men. Also, what surprises me about Plato in Plato’s republic is that how could he come up with such conclusions about the world of forms.
