Since high school I loved volunteering to help others as much as I could. Whenever you ask anybody how do you want to help others they will say something like"I will give them money". What they don’t know is that they can really help by offering valuable services even if they don't have money. Sometimes making a person smile is doing something good.

Here in AUB the CCECS helps me to reach people that need help. this semester I went to Orphan Welfare society where I was given 4 orphans (males) in the 4th grade to tutor them in English. I divided the time given to me which was an hour and a half to 3 parts. First, I explained to them the simple present tense and simple past tense and gave them some exercises to practice. Second, I introduced some basics words in English. Finally, I taught them how to introduce themselves in English. After a half an hour break for the lunch, the number of children increased to 12 children. The first time I divided them into two teams, so some children were forced to get out of the game for a short period and that made them angry. This next time I divided them into 3 teams and every two teams play until one team scores 2 goals and the loser gets out and the 3rd team enter. Thus, all the children were satisfied

The children are benefiting from those activities. For instance, The English tutoring is for improving their English language to communicate, write, and read better in English. The football training is making the children happy in the first place, but also it is a good way to connect with the children. I wanted to talk more to the children and listen to them to make them feel better at least.

However, I had some challenges with the children. For example, I prefer to have a discussion in class instead of just giving information, but it is harder when the children get to talk about their personal stuff and in Arabic all the time. Children get easily bored during the English lesson, so it is hard to keep the task interesting.

Those challenges helped me improve some of my skills. I was able to convince angry children to stop fighting with their friends, so I think my convincing abilities improved. Problem solving abilities improved when I divided the children into 3 teams and make it like a tournament for them to get satisfied and have fun.
