Please refer callers to the vco@uh.edu email account wherever possible. Missed forwarded calls often leave folks more frustrated as they feel like they’re being bounced around. In general, we are able to respond to most VCO emails within the hour; most delays come from emails being directed to the general admissions account and taking time to be redirected to VCO. Questions regarding admissions counseling and college fairs are not in the purview of VCO and should be directed to the recruitment team.
Individual Tours
All available tours are automatically uploaded to the webpage from our scheduling platform. If individuals are calling about not seeing the time they want, their time slot is already full or there is not a published tour during that time due to staff availability or a conflicting event. You can offer them to come to campus for a self-guided tour (available at the front counter) or encourage them to register for our many virtual offerings.
The Office of Admissions handles Student Housing and Residence Life tours as part of a partnership with that department; please do not refer calls regarding housing tours to their office.
Every in-person individual tour includes a tour of Cougar Village 2, one of our popular freshman residence halls.
If callers are inquiring about seeing other residence halls, encourage them to register for our virtual “living on campus” tour. In-person tours of all halls are not offered as that would disrupt SHRL’s operations.
Parking is available in the Welcome Center garage for personal vehicles. Hourly rates do apply. Do not recommend any other parking options to guests as we can’t take responsibility for parking violations.
We conduct campus tours rain or shine; campus tours are only cancelled in the case of the university providing guidance to cancel all in person operations. In the case of unsafe conditions (flooding/lightening) where the university maintains in-person operations, campus tours are provided using our virtual tour in the Welcome Center Theater.
Individuals can cancel their registration through the “itinerary” link in their confirmation email. Rescheduling can be done in the same way as their initial reservation since our registration link automatically updates availability in real time.
Guests can file “accessibility requests” in their registration. We will strive to meet the needs of any guests to ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience our campus. However, please do not make any specific promises (i.e. we’ll take you on the golf carts!) as our response to accessibility requests may be limited by available resources
If a guest forgot to pick up a campus visit excuse note for their high school, direct them to the vco@uh.edu email account and a pdf will be sent to them as soon as possible.
The only time I’d prefer you providing my office number is in the case of escalated complaints regarding campus tour staff (i.e. inappropriate behavior from a tour guide)
Group Tours
Please don’t offer group tours by request; all group tour time slots for fall 2021 are available for registration on the webpage. Questions should be directed to vco@uh.edu
Group tours do not include a complimentary meal
Group tours do not include an admissions presentation for fall 2021
Bus parking is available at Technology Bridge. Groups can be dropped off at Student Center South and the driver can park the bus then shuttle to campus if desired. Group tours will meet outside the welcome center.
Cougar Preview
Cougar Preview will be offered virtually on October 9
Cougar Preview in-person is still pending details and approval, tentatively for November 6 and November 20th
Registration and details will be posted to the webpage
