Garment Construction (Hand)

Honeycomb Smocking Apron

Taught by - Lady Prudence the Curious at the Sacred Stone Collegium

So now begins the journey of working with fabric........

10/4/22 - I have always been honest in stating that I am not skilled in working in garment construction.    After speaking with Tracy Justus, I am seriously going to seek time to work in the construction of garments, hand done.  My fourth and final submission for the Persona Competition for the Kingdom is a partlet that is ruffled and will now have blackwork embroidery as it should be.

So I can hand embroiderer, hand bead, so what is the reasoning for not having skill in garment construction?  New goal for 2023.

Fascination with hook and eye construction:  Kat Fernley posted her Wordpress research and construction processes for Hook & Eye Construction as well as lacing rings.

Elizabethan Caul to match existing garb

French Seaming for a clean finish inside

All done by hand

I have a fascination for Elizabethan Cauls.  The is another type of Caul which is shown above.   The first one I saw is below

With my extremely long hair now going fully grey - the addition of the comb to hold the piece in place worked really well.

Can you see the spangles?  They are so tiny.

Goals for 2024 -

3/15/24 - I just realized that I have not written about the construction of a Houppelande and Truncated Henin that was needed for a Portrayal of Margorie Beaufort - Countess of Richmond.  Mother of Henry the VII.
