Element A: Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.
This artifact demonstrates Element A by showing my commitment to high standards of professional conduct through reflection on my own professional dispositions in my elementary placement. In this document, I identified my strengths and areas for improvement, showing an understanding that professionalism involves ongoing self-assessment and growth. My role as a teacher was to honestly evaluate my behaviors, reflect on how they impact my teaching, and set goals to improve in areas where I need growth.
Element B: Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.
This artifact of the day's agenda and an activity demonstrates Element B by showing how I connected a professional development experience to my own teaching goals. During the PD session at Timnath Middle High on March 13th, I explored different strategies for generating art ideas with other secondary teachers, such as observation, the unknown, play, looking at other artists, and nature. I then applied what I learned from some of the ideation sticky notes by incorporating a blind contour hand drawing warm-up into my high school 2D class, using observation as a focus to help prepare students for their upcoming portrait project. My role as a teacher was to actively participate in the professional development, reflect on how the strategies could apply to my classroom, and implement one of the ideas in a way that supported my students’ skill development and my goal of improving lesson planning.
Element C: Teachers respond to a complex, dynamic environment.
This artifact demonstrates Element C by showing how I adapted to changes in the high school environment during state testing. The testing schedule required adjustments to class time, routines, and lesson pacing, which impacted how instruction could be delivered. I responded by modifying my plans to fit the shortened week while still maintaining meaningful learning activities for students, as well as an asynchronous learning assignment they were supposed to do during the two days of testing. My role as a teacher was to stay flexible, adjust lessons as needed, and manage the classroom effectively despite schedule disruptions in order to keep students engaged and on track.
Element D: Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession.
This artifact demonstrates Element D by showing how I took part in preparing high school student artwork for a district art show. I collaborated with other art teachers to select pieces and decide how to arrange them in a way that best represented student work and created a strong overall display. This process supported the school community by celebrating student achievement and making their work visible to others. My role as a teacher was to actively contribute to the decision-making and setup process, working with colleagues to organize and display artwork while helping represent our students and the art program positively and professionally.
