My instruction balances project-based learning and Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB).
Art education is essential because it promotes creative thinking, problem-solving, and experiential learning.
Students learn to think through materials and make decisions.
Kindergarten instruction is more project-based, providing structure while building foundational skills and routines to be assessed.
As students get older, my instruction will become increasingly choice-based, supporting independence, artistic voice, and decision-making.
My lessons will be standards-based focusing on big ideas rather than isolated techniques.
My instruction will connect what students understand (big ideas), know (content and vocabulary), and do (transferable artistic skills).
Assessment in art is ongoing.
Formative assessments include observation, questioning, and feedback during the art-making process.
Summative assessments include performance-based tasks, rubrics, and student reflections aligned with standards.
Reflection is a key component of my assessments, helping students evaluate their choices, processes, and growth as artists that in turn help me assess them.
