The Global Future: Issues and Trends for the 21st Century

The Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS), a Japan-based professional organization for international scholars and educators interested in interdiscipinary perspectives on issues of global significance, is pleased to announce the theme, date and place of its 2011 international conference. This year's theme is The Global Future: Issues and Trends for the 21st Century. The conference on this occasion will be hosted by International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan.
The organizing committee invites paper proposals on the following themes, though others will be considered:
- futurology
- technology and society
- the global economy
- inequality
- human rights
- global ethics - consumerism
- political/religious ideologies
- globalization and culture
- cosmopolitanism
- health and disease
- crime
- conflict and war
- the environment
- gender issues
- the US and the world
- the UN and global affairs
- the "War on Terror"
Proposals (an abstract of the paper) should be between 150 to 200 words and include the paper's title and the author's name, affiliation, and contact information. A bio of 100 to 125 words describing the author's background, accomplishments and research interests should also accompany the proposal. Both proposals and bios should be written using the templates provided at: http://asia-globalstudies.org/templates Applications should then be submitted as email attachments to
conferenceproposals@asia-globalstudies.org Documents not using the templates or following the specified format will not be accepted. Please note that we can offer no travel support or funding to participants. Thus, please only submit a proposal if you are certain you will have your own financial means to attend the conference.

Early bird rates:
Members: 10,000 yen [By Feb. 1]
Non-members: 12,000 yen [By Feb. 1]

6. Deadlines:
Submission of proposal: November 30, 2010
Notification of proposal result: December 14, 2010
Deadline for earlybird registration: February 1, 2011
Deadline for presenters' registration*: February 1, 2011
Deadline for refunds**: February 21, 2011
Conference event: March 12-13, 2011
* All presenters must submit their conference fees in advance, by Feb. 1, before they can be registered. (On site fees will only be accepted for non-presenters.)
** No refunds after 21 February, 2011. Refunds requested before this time will be returned two weeks following the conference.
