With the political unrest in Hong Kong leading to the cancellation of our 2020 conference, and then the COVID-19 pandemic halting our planning for the 2021 conference, at the end of 2020 the executive board took the difficult decision to close down the AAGS for the foreseeable future as an operating entity. However, this site will remain as a repository of all the publications, presentations, and other event details and all the content and pages will remain as originally posted as an archive only version and will not be updated in future. Also the old executive board emails will no longer work.Â
Founded in 2005, and operating until 2020, the Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS) was a professional organization for scholars and educators in Asia who were interested in and actively contributed to the development of global studies as a research and teaching field. Its primary focus was on Asia's changing international status and the impact of globalization on Asia, though it also supported work by members on other themes and world regions.
The AAGS strived to promote innovative research and alternative perspectives on issues of international significance. It particularly encouraged cross-disciplinary and transnational theoretical approaches that dissolved traditional academic boundaries and related local events to wider global processes. The association also functioned as an open forum for the expression of regional opinions and viewpoints that might otherwise go unheard in the English-speaking world.
As the AAGS has now formally closed down we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our members, officers and other supporters who contributed to it over the years. It was a great ride and we really enjoyed working with you all. So good luck in all your future endeavours.
