AAGS
The Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS) was a non-profit, non-partisan organization that promoted the research and teaching of global studies in Asia. AAGS' mission was to provide an English-language forum for globally-oriented Asia-based academics of diverse nationalities and disciplinary backgrounds to gather together, present their research, exchange ideas, do collaborative projects, and develop regional networks in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.
Founded in 2005, the Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS) was a professional organization for scholars and educators in Asia who were interested in and actively contributed to the development of global studies as a research and teaching field. Its primary focus was on Asia's changing international status and the impact of globalization on Asia, though it also supported work by members on other themes and world regions.
AAGS strived to promote innovative research and alternative perspectives on issues of international significance. It particularly encouraged cross-disciplinary and transnational theoretical approaches that dissolved traditional academic boundaries and related local events to wider global processes. The association also functioned as an open forum for the expression of regional opinions and viewpoints that might otherwise go unheard in the English-speaking world.
The association strived to meet its objectives by:-
- hosting regular meetings, guest lectures, and annual conferences.
- publishing its newsletter once yearly
- publishing the Asia Journal of Global Studies, a refereed academic journal, twice yearly
- promoting global studies as a research and educational field in Asia
- promoting transnational, cross-cultural collaborative research projects in Asia
- encouraging international faculty and student exchanges among Asian universities.
The AAGS welcomed anyone to join and contribute.
