The invocation song to mother Tamil, known as 'Tamil Thai Vaazhthu', was played at a function, presided over by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit yesterday, to release a Tamil-Sanskrit dictionary. Described by the authors as the first nationally representative study of these conditions, it was published online in JAMA Internal Medicine Monday. It looked at health data, which included plasma glucose and blood pressure measurements, from 1.32 million adults in 27 states (except Gujarat and J&K) and five UTs between 2012 and 2014. Standardised for age, diabetes prevalence in India was 6.1% among women and 6.5% among men; for hypertension, it was 20% among women and 24.5% among men. For comparison, the paper cites corresponding estimates for prevalence in the US — for diabetes, 6.4% among women and 8.1% among men; for hypertension, 10.8% among women and 15.5% among men. The prevalence of both conditions among middle-aged adults in the poorest households in rural areas, too, was high (5.9% had diabetes and 30% had hypertension), contrary to the perception that these are conditions affecting the city wealthy. Diabetes was most prevalent in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and West Bengal, said Ashish Awasthi, co-author of the study and faculty at the Indian Institute of Public Health in Gandhinagar. “The hypertension prevalence tended to be highest in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Sikkim and Nagaland,” Awasthi told The Indian Express. Will keep u guys informed 12/02/18, 22:48 - mohan-pichuraman-friend-usa: <Media omitted> 15/02/18, 18:20 - customerelakshya: sats piles fistulla health condition medical hemorrhoids suffering doctor Background till june 2008, only few times have i bothered to understand abt piles a. during early 90's when at karnal, we used to see in paharganj railway station - new delhi - there, on the walls - "piles treatment" written. then i thought - maybe it is some sex disease b. my uncle murali - hush-hush affair - he used to get his vesti bleeding - this was in 90s again when i was not in chennai - i heard vaguely that he got treated etc c. my close friend venkoba rao (who is also elephant loving keralite) - during 2006/7 when i was closely associated with him, he was on and off radar - complained of lots of pain in anus - went to doc etc - later heard he had piles Episode 1-major Till 2008 in my whole life, never bothered about stools and 2-bathroom discipline. always went to latrine on a JIT basis. when it comes i go ! so many times esp during travel, once in 2 days etc etc. still dont remember how it started, but maybe constipation prior to that. but in june 2008, when i was in chennai for elakshya work, developed lots of pain in anal region. this has always happened in past whenever i got solid stools, so ignored it (am sure each of you also get this temporary pain if solid). after 3-4 days, pain refused to go but only increased. cud not sit properly. so i alone went to local doctor ( some 4 streets away) - he gave some medicines and i had them - another 2 days passed - still refused to go away - so again went to same doctor - he again gave medicine and said will become ok. next 3 days suffered lot. so my parents saw my pain. my dad got worried - he took me to ezhil nursing home. This doc said - u got piles, we need to operate u, dont worry, it is under LA (local anesthesia). so unable to bear the pain, i agreed. they put me to a bed - nurse put some antibiotic injection - then doc came - he said only prick - he injected painkiller right into my anus - it was v painful - after 5 min he started scraping in my anus ! inspite of painkiller i cud feel the scraping. it was as if someone was digging inside my scalp - unforgettable experience - too exhausted after the 10-min affair and was lying down for sometime - then felt too weak to go back by car ( i had came driving to hosp alongwith my father to saidapet). so dad took me back by auto, then i went back to sleep. i think father arranged some driver to go and get the car back. but in 2 days time i became completely alright went for closing consultation to this doc again. he drew my anus position - showed some hook-kind of drawing and said - look it is now ok but ur anal structure is such that some time in life we will have to do a full-blown surgery for u. i cannot tell u tomorrow, next year etc - but mark my words - some future time in ur life u will HAVE to do it. however, for u, try to prevent it - henceforth, daily stool discipline please ! Episode 2 - minor Dec 1st week 2008 - my father had just died in Nov 15. So i went to dr herle and looked at him asking for sympathy. somehow thought that time has come for that surgery prophecy, but with my father having passed away less than a fortnight earlier i was in no mood - but he gave me some medicine and it became ok in 2-3 days i think Episode 3 - minor April 1st week 2012 - we were about to leave for Singapore in a week. So when pain was there for 2 days continuous went to manipal hospital and met MD-general medicine. this time with full family - wife and kids in tow - this doc locked in room and inserted finger into my anus - i howled - my kids in other room still tease me about it. he gave some medicine and it became ok in 2-3 days Episode 4 - major (?) 3 feb 2018 sunday- i did weights that evening at cult fitness - kettle bell - normally have not done weights before - this involved lots of squatting etc 4 feb 2018 tue - after some particular matters in morning, pain developed by noon. thought it will go away - but it persisted - continued on monday - so by tuesday morn i had decided that i will go to doc - but which doc ? did not have enthu to go all way to manipal. 6 Feb - so tue evening, went to dr gyan kej at apoorva diagnostic (father of ricky kej) ( i go to gyan kej for fever normally). he gave 4 medicines, came home. he did advise as much bedrest as possible. also lots of fruits and veggies, lassi, 7-10 feb - went to office as usual - difficult to sit for more than few mins - pain constant inspite of pain killers - so was getting v worried - has my time for surgery arrived ? 11 feb 2018 - morning went to doc again - told him has not become ok. so he again gave another set of medicine - he continued to tell me surgery may not be required if it becomes ok by 16th feb else we need to do. he only used torch to peer in and not hands as soon as i came back home full bed rest - did not move out of bed except for washroom and having food. in process read 4 books - black friday by hussain zaidi, sapiens by harari, mans search for meaning by victor frankl. unlike ramana who reads 4 books in 1 day, i could only read 3 books in 5 days. also saw lots of videos esp on ltte, idi amin, operation entebbe, world war 2 etc Experience - after medicine upto 1 hr no effect. then slowly pain reduces. pain negligent in the 2 hr to 5 hr window. after that slowly return. by 7th hour u crave for next dosage. 8th hour u take medicine because 3 times a day. stools very loose and soft and i got 2 times a day. after stools for 1-2 hrs lot of discomfort. in night if i take medicine at 9 pm, then pain starts at 4 am and sleep disturbed. hence i then made it a point to have only at 12.30 night. Upto 15 feb 2018 - full bed rest - which means - 5 full days of lying down in bed - felt slightly better by evening 16 feb 2018 - morning 8 am have come to office. am sitting since then - feeling much better - mild irritation in anus, am hoping that this episode too passes - so am writing to you guys Other learnings - if lying in bed all the time lots of backpain / was feeling very frustrated at times / on 14 feb morning when it was still not at all becoming ok i almost finalised that it is gonna be surgery and hence started planning mentally / pain is something purely personal and NOBODY can help u / other philosophical thinking So i have penned this as of 630 pm on 15 feb 2018. feeling much better now, only slight discomfort, doc visit is there tomorrow morn to gyan kej again. Coming to the question of why do Thamizh people feel proud of their language. Thamizh has a continuous history since the ancient times. Valluvar (who wrote Thirukkural) was born during the Third/Last Sangam period (300 BCE). If Thirukkural could be drafted at that age and time, a well developed society must have thrived in Thamizhakam several years before that. This confirms that the age of Thamizh is close to 4000 years and likely even beyond that. The continuous history plays a very important role in defining the factor of ‘pride’ among the speakers of Thamizh. Another aspect is the kind of thoughts that were shared among the people speaking Thamizh even before Christ and Allah were ever created. Thamizhs back then discussed life, consciousness, divinity, love, war, sex, peace, societal progress, manners, meaning, habits, ethics and so on.
