Balan, who is the Vice-President of ETC Channel; mom - a home-maker, and an elder sister, Priya, who is married to Kedar. She also has an aunt by the name of Raji Raju. The Balan family re-located to live at Road No. 11, near Ambedkar Garden, Chembur, Bombay, when Vidya was very young. She studied in St. Anthony's Convent School, and thereafter in St. Xavier's College from where she obtained a degree in Sociology. She then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Sociology from Bombay University. She also studied and performed in Prithvi Theaters' workshops. Due to tradition of most Tamil-Iyer families, Vidya and her Priya learned Carnatic dance form during their early childhood days 06/12/17, 20:36 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 07/12/17, 09:51 - customerelakshya: *sundy introduced me to the name of koli fayyaz, through the person of akash yajaman. (yajaman on the right, fayaz in centre). he attended his sister's grand marriage too* The Muslim underworld reared its head in the city in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were active mostly in areas such as Shivajinagar, Tannery Road, JJ Nagar, Ilyasnagar and other Muslim-dominated areas. Abu Shair, Koli Fayaz, Tanveer, Ishtiyak, Sajjad, Nazir, Tarakari Khaleel and Chappal Hamid were a few of the Muslim dons known for their notoriety. Later, Athush, Brigade Aza, Tarakari Kaleel, Arif Altaf, Imran, Reebok Naseem, and the now slain Diwan Ali joined the brigade. Koli Fayaz, alias Murgi Fayaz, had a free run in Shivajinagar area before he was done to death. His trusted lieutenant Tanveer took over from him, and soon became a dreaded extortionist. Tanveer, with roots in Jammu and Kashmir, was a tailor and took to petty crimes in Shivajinagar area before joining Fayaz’s gang. He and two other rowdies were once targeted by Muthappa Rai’s men, who ended up killing another criminal in a case of mistaken identity. Fayaz’s nephew Shakeel Ahmed is currently a corporator, representing Bharathi Nagar on a Congress ticket. Ahmed had at least 15 cases pending against him when he won the elections. The Muslim underworld has been suspected of establishing links with gun rackets. It has been traced to Naseem of JJ Nagar, who came in contact with Haveri Aslam of Jharkhand, while both were in jail. Aslam sourced guns from dealers at Purulia in West Bengal and sent them to Naseem, who sold it in the city. The underworld in Bangalore kept pace with the economic development of the city, focusing on different lucrative verticals. They found the pasture green as several businesses employed them to protect their personal as well as financial interests. The rise of Kodigehalli Mune Gowda in the late 1960s was linked with such interests. Arrack shops and brothels paid him protection money (hafta) so that their businesses would be affected by other small-time rowdies, and more importantly, the police. Gowda soon became a terror, and was crowned as Bangalore’s first underworld don. He remained the undisputed don and controlled all of Bangalore till Kotwal Ramachandra and MP Jairaj entered the field in the 1970s. Ramachandra and Jairaj did not confine their business interests to just arrack shops and brothels. They expanded their ‘cover’ to wine shops, games and massage parlours. The scene changed in the 1980s and 1990s when a new crop of dons entered the scene. Prominent among them were Muthappa Rai. The new entrants had interest in real estate, live bands and the supply of adulterated oil. Rai reportedly was associated with Dawood Ibrahim. The gun culture was introduced during this time — 1989 to be precise - when Jairaj was shot dead. The city witnessed the first contract (supari) killing during this period. It was also during this period that the Muslim underworld became active in Bangalore 07/12/17, 10:43 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 07/12/17, 10:43 - customerelakshya: *and in case u notice, it has been sung from the heart - eyes closed, with full feeling* 07/12/17, 15:15 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 07/12/17, 15:38 - customerelakshya: *am sure u guys enjoyed my nenjodu kalandidu song of today morning.pl also see the lyrics for ur imm ref* Nenjodu Kalanthidu Uravaalae Kaalangal Maranthidu Anbae Nilavoadu Thendralum Varum Vaelai Kaayangal Maranthidu Anbae Oru Paarvai Paarthu Naan Nindraal Siru Poovaaga Nee Malarvaaya Oru Vaarthai Ingu Naan Sonnaal Vali Poagum Yen Anbae Anbae Kannaadi Yendrum Udainthaalum Kooda Pimbangal Kaattum Paarkindraen Puyal Poana Pinnum Puthu Pookkal Pookkum Ilavenil Varai Naan Irukindraen Mugha Moodi Anigindra Ulagithu Un Mugham Yendru Ondrengu Yennathu Nathi Neerilae Ada Vizhunthaaluma Antha Nilavendrum Nanayaathey Vaa Nanbaa Kaalangal Oadum Ithu Kathaiyaagi Poagum Kanneer Thuliyin Eeram Vaazhum Thaayaaga Neethaan Thalai Koatha Vanthaa'lum Un Madimeethu Meendum Jananam Vendum Yen Vaazhkai Nee Ingu Thanthathu Adi Un Naatkkal Thaane Ingu Vaazhvathu Kaathal Illai Ithu Kaamam Illai Intha Uravukku Ulagathil Peyarillai 07/12/17, 19:17 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 07/12/17, 19:17 - customerelakshya: We are proud to announce that we have partnered up with TEDx for their upcoming event 'TEDxLavelleRoad', the largest TEDx to be organized in South India. Carnatic music is no exception. There are some profound shifts happening in the performance circuit that are altering the landscape subtly or otherwise. We discuss four of these: The audience: Virtual audience (as opposed to face-to-face audience) has grown in large numbers. This includes you-tube watchers, private collectors and propagators on the net. Some (or many) may not even attend live concerts but are active participants and commentators. That has a big impact on the Chennai season crowds. There is now a big divide. A few stars boast long entry queues before their concerts and many other capable artistes have about 25 in the audience in an evening slot. The grammar of attracting audience to concerts has changed. What is your social media and audience-gathering strategy? As they outnumber physical audiences, in cricketing parlance, one may have a roaring ‘net’ practice without worrying about the main pitch (pun intended). The cradle to stardom has shrunk: The mid-morning or the noon slots are the cradle identifiers for aspirants. The climb to the prime evening slot has shrunk in recent times to less than ten years (albeit for a few). How do you then stay on top for 30-40 years as the previous generations did? What are the challenges of averting staleness in one’s music, having risen fast? Over-performance has already taken its toll on the careers of some. What is the secret to staying fresh and appealing if your peak years get you on stage 15-20 times in December, very early in life? Personal branding: The popularity equation has transformed and music quality is only one of the variables. What is your brand? It comprises personal identity (social butterfly or recluse or cult-leader or loyalty-seeker, etc.,), dress and appearance code (even half-sleeved white shirt is a fashion statement, accessories do help and men’s jewellery is cool), what causes are you associated with (genuinely or otherwise), how international is your performance calendar (remember, there are 190-odd countries in the world), what are your extra-curricular activities (related to music or otherwise — writer, dramatist, activist, debater, actor, lyricist, social do-gooder and flirter into other fields), which celebrities are you seen with are all important statements in the resume of a contemporary performer. Is your comfort food or your favourite restaurant a public secret yet? Have you enlisted a photographer as one of your avid fans? If you haven’t done it yet, please go and see a personal brand consultant today. Norm-breaking streak: Quirky musicians were the outliers in the past. Not anymore! A bit of (even a lot of) off-beat content is not considered brash. You can vary the format, include unusual songs or themes, play around with established norms, over-do some parts and get the traditionalists to squirm. You will not be accused of mocking our music or disrespecting the order. It’s slowly becoming mainstream. Liberties are taken, not given. If you are convinced that they make you stand out in the crowd, go right ahead. The community is quite tolerant. Whether an artiste wishes to stay solid like a rock on traditional footing or move with the shifting sands, is a tough choice these days. 08/12/17, 12:51 - customerelakshya: Am sure Sundy does this too - i keep seeing this link every few hours since the season has started ! http://www.thehindu.com/topic/Chennai_Margazhi_Season/ 08/12/17, 14:09 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 09/12/17, 15:52 - customerelakshya: Am traveling again to Kerala - this time for 3 full days - and covering Kochi / Thrissur and then Kozhikode. *I have done something for the first time in my life - traveling by 3-AC. Train just crossed aluva While I had a decent sleep since it was actually compartment, the unique feature in Kerala trains is that people keep getting down at every station. Unlike a train to cbe where majority alight at kovai itself, in this case, my train is almost empty before reaching ernakulam 13/12/17, 05:24 - customerelakshya: AC compartment, not actually compartment 13/12/17, 05:33 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 13/12/17, 06:37 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 13/12/17, 06:51 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: Cool, wishing a productive day. 13/12/17, 06:52 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: actually i like the 3rd person reporting style and your personal branding...'SATs' 13/12/17, 17:28 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: <Media omitted> 13/12/17, 22:59 - customerelakshya: Use of SATs is for easy later search, not branding. Did the run in 2 hrs 25 mins approx. Rank 41 out of some 69 male finishers (dont know how many started the race). Am not sure if this is a recognised event for being able to use my certificate for enrolling in any marathon. Tomorrow's event Thump Kotak Run 2017 - i have not practiced in the last one full week. I have been traveling (and also not dieting) , and hence i feel that my performance will be dismal - should be able to clock somewhere around 3 hrs 10 mins or so ( estimate). My weight check today morning showed 73.5, but since i have not exercised my legs/body - am expecting a bad performance. 16/12/17, 17:15 - customerelakshya: Details of tomorrow's event ( since sunda mentioned that he wants to be around to cheer me) - Thump celebration run 21 km half marathon - bib no 1396 - reporting time 530 am - need to leave home by 445 starting time is 6 am - pesit it college - nice too plaza scooter parking - vinay is organiser - helpline is 99807-44332. websites are leagueofmyown.in and lifeiscalling-sports.com 16/12/17, 17:25 - customerelakshya: Just wanted to inform my friends - though Ramana had advised us against it, somehow (maybe for lack of better options), we have enrolled niharika for aakash classes - will cost approx 3.2 L for the 2-year program. CELEBRATION BENGALURU 1/2 MARATHON & 10K 2017 with a net time of '2:37:54 for Half Marathon - results by rpsports.co.in . 17/12/17, 13:59 - customerelakshya: Did my run at a speed of 8.02 kmph. Ok dokay, but as usual enjoyed it. No practice last 10 days, so huge body pain now. Leaving late evening back to my present hometown kozhikode 17/12/17, 14:54 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: Wow, hey congrats machan, tussi great ho! 17/12/17, 14:55 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: I'm taking a bow 17/12/17, 15:06 - customerelakshya: I recall a sentence in my fav book Kane and Abel. Abel's father, a worker in the Baron's estate- Archer comments about him wryly right on page 1- this man sported a huge moustache, his only gesture of defiance in an otherwise servile existence. Similarly, my half marathons are my only gestures of achievement in an otherwise hopeless existence 17/12/17, 20:46 - customerelakshya: Am in bus waiting for it to leave. Sunda always wanted me to pen my run experience so here goes. 25 min drive to nice toll from home, 15 km away, at 450 morn. Before leaving home, did these few things-antichafing cream USA on my groin, 2 banana, small bottle mixed with preworkout 300 powder, tape for taping key to scooter when I park there, some emergency cash, my run shirt with bib fixed. 17/12/17, 20:54 - customerelakshya: Reached at 520. Saw big crowd, most in cars. Usual stuff- Zumba workout was starting on stage, jockey was full enthu, yellow headband Karnataka drummers traditional, were starting to play, many more serious folks were working out or small fast jogs in a practice lane, queues for water and mobile toilets. 540pm about 2k folks line up for the 30k run, flagoff by r hitendra-naana's friend, at 545 sharp. Next we the lesser 21kmers line up. I am some 50 m behind start line-so much crowd. So 6am sharp ashok kheny flags off. Clock tick starts in main board but for each runner, it starts only when yellow line crossed. So for that 50m, as I jostle with crowd, just relax walk with deep breaths. Cross line at about 605 and start running 17/12/17, 21:04 - customerelakshya: Route map is actually the best of all my runs till now. Just a straight path on a broad concrete slab road, going for 10.6 km staright and u turn thereafter retracing steps. No confusion what's over. But still, we had the usual-ie lead bikes et al. They had told earlier about water stations every 2km-water, Gatorade, babana, biscuit. Addition was tender coconut too. Ok am now breezing thru my first 2km, trotting. Good scenery since road cuts thru 17/12/17, 21:18 - customerelakshya: Thru hill and rock. Skip the first watering hole-am a veteran u see. Many amateurs crowd round, I smirk at them as I continue my run. Cross 3km and feeling bit, just wee bit tired. But determine to go till 4 without stop. Space between runners has increased, and I have much more leg room now-the first 100-200 have bolted, and nowhere found. Rest are with me. Runs have this too-there's normally a 150 bus, 2.00 bus, 210 bus and 220 bus. Bus is actually a vet runner with big flag fixed on his back. He usually gets a crowd which run with him hoping to do those times. Since I can't hope a 220, and also since I am independent, I don't hop on to a bus. Anyway, 4km comes, I stop for Gatorade, walk about 50 m ie 60 sec maybe, start running again. But pace actually lowers because ur body has taken the excuse of that small break, to demand u to slow down. That is why runners need mental than physical stamina- u need to tell ur body NO. So lesser pace now, reach 6km, cross some lake on my right. 210 bus guy with his followers are still in my eyesight. Stop for Gatorade but am offered water. Grab it since no time to locate Gatorade. This time, walk is 150m, and run pace slower. But somehow manage to reach 8 without stop. By this time, body since tiring, but 210 guy still in view. After watering, walk 100 m, continue. But this time, again stop at 9km, walk 100 m, start running slwloy till 10km mark. Big reception here with melam thaalam, shout of way to go, almost half done, good going etc etc. Feel like a racehorse. Also cross the 10km timing iron line, Pat urslef that not too bad till now, SATs machan. The 210 bus guy is somewhere in horizon, but this is the last u see of him or his crowd 17/12/17, 21:28 - customerelakshya: One word abt the course-though it is straight line, lots of ups and downs so tired when up and vice versa. My strategy is normally to try to run when slope is down so that u drag ur body weight. When up, u are anyway tired so will be forced to walk. So reach the 10.5 km u turn, turn around and come BK. As u go, look at those others on the other side who still are on their first leg, and gloat. Rub becoming increasingly difficult and ur pace is almost like a walk now. Ur body tells u- hey anyway y did a decent 10km, now give me a break, u shan't be disgraced with a 3hr plus, so chill. This is the start of the doom. After this message from my body, I never recover. From here on, it is 300-500 m on slow run and 100-150 m of walk, with Gatorade every 2km. Since road was of 1m concrete slabs, tried to motivate myself-just one more slab, take it slab slab u idiot, don't let ur body give up. What will you tell sunda later on. Come on u asshole. Look at that old man white hair ahead of u. See that fat babe in front of u- shame on u. Remember u have a good breakfast waiting for u at end. Ok,ok. I concede u can't do ur personal best of 225 since no practice for 10days, but don't give up, man 17/12/17, 21:48 - customerelakshya: So, cross 14, then 15, etc in same way. Many others are also struggling like u are, walking, little running, again walking, little run. There's a headfone youngster who has actually taken u as a bus. He's walking in front of u, but the minute u cross him in a run, he breaks out into a run himself and again goes ahead for some time. So it goes this way and 18km crosses. By this time the 10km run racers wearing different t-shirt are also running alongside u-their run must hv started at 7 or so. At 19 km u decide- enough is enough. I must now start running properly. But by then, body damage is done. Ur nipples start hurting, ur toes want to tear away ur shoe bcos of blister inside, ur calf threatens to give u cramps, u hv no stamina left. Inspite of this, I try to do a last trotting and somehow reach 20. Give the water a miss, do a 100m walk, gather strength and take on the last 900m. I can already hear the exuberance of the finish line in the distance, I convince myself-hey another 2min max. Soon enough I can spot the finish arch in distance but unable to go fast. But deciding not to merely walk, slow slow run to finish line. Somehow cross it. Unlike many others, do not sprawl in ground but move to a side to sit. Before sitting an organiaer- sir, half marathon, PL collect ur finisher medal that side. So collect it, then go to breakfast place-big queue. Somehow get hold of plate with idli pongal kesari. Hatti kaapi is sold out, epifamia is already sold out. So sit to eat. Body aching everywhere but u know that it will last for another 60min come what may. So finish breakfast, slowly walk to ur scooter. This walk is so slow that 100 m actually takes 10min- no exaggeration. Reach scooter, v slowly do the motions like helmet etc, slowly cruise to loop, ask someone which is way to mg road, then get into Mysore Rd. From here u know the way, reach home around 10am. When u finished, u swa ur arch clock at 2.44 or so. U already know that u crossed 5 min after clock start, so u can guess that ur time would hv been around 237 17/12/17, 22:02 - customerelakshya: At home, opened mobile. No SMS till then. Family crowds round, rajani full empathy-if possible u take bath and sleep, if not use paai. Shud I get u water, coffee? N2 - show me ur medal. N1-how much u did? U smile weakly at all this, go for 2 bathroom, follow with small bath sitting on floor, cupping ur nipples which hv been bleeding g for some time. Somehow manage to finish bath, wear something warm plus sweater-since u always feel v cold after run, tuck into bed, ask children to put 2 blankets on u. Sleep eludes since body pain. Legs keep shifting. Rajani joins and asks if she can help. N2 wants to know if she can massage. U smilingly shrug these offers off, lie in bed till 12. No hunger, no mood for lunch, ur throat also cannot take deep breath. U are used to all these symptoms as a vet runner. So at 1230 sit up on sofa, first thing call Mom and say all is ok. Debate on whether call sunda or not-decide no since Sunday. SMS in timing still has not come so puzzled. Mentally go over my run-u crossed all yellow iron timers rite?cool. So SMS arrives 1pm, first thing send to saramosuha. After lunch, again lie down, get up at 3pm, feeling much better now. Slowly walk up and down and take part in some family chores, give yrself a smile if not a pat-boss, u've done one more HM. So chill, buddy. Adios till the next run. But also tell uraelf-marathon is a dream many more runs away. U need to do a sub210 very effortlessly to think of marathon! 17/12/17, 22:03 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 17/12/17, 22:37 - customerelakshya: Read it as 220 bus, not 210 bus- the one I stayed with till the 10km mark 17/12/17, 22:38 - customerelakshya: My weight remains at 72.8kg. this is bcos I have been eating too much at Kozhikode. 18/12/17, 18:04 - customerelakshya: Sundakka, thanks for ur warm comments about my blog during our morning call 18/12/17, 18:06 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted> 18/12/17, 20:10 - a18-sundar natarajan mobile -sundy - friend - peenya-airport-bial-kaatu: Excellent blog da, extremely well written with the details to boot. Alzheimer's can be prevented, by new technique to improve concentration, develop creativity and intelligence, by performing these simple exercises of Neurobics. "Neuroscience" reveals that the brain has an extraordinary ability to grow and change the pattern of its connections. The authors of this discovery, Lawrence Katz and Manning Rubin (2000), reveal that Neurobics, or "aerobic neurons" is a new form of brain exercise, designed to keep the brain agile and healthy, creating new and different patterns of behavior, and of the activities of the neurons in your brain. About 80% of our day to day tasks are done on AUTO MODE (i.e. we do them without exercising our brain.)which despite having the advantage of reducing intellectual effort, hide a perverse effect: they limit and atrophy the brain, not allowing the renewal and growth of their neurons. To counteract this tendency, it is necessary to practice some "brain exercises", which make the person think only about what they are doing, concentrating on that task. It is doing everything contrary to the routine, forcing the brain to an additional job. Some of the exercises . - Use the watch on the pulse opposite to the one that normally uses it. - Brush the teeth with the opposite hand. - Walk around the house, backward (in China, this routine is practiced in the parks). - Dress with your eyes closed. - Stimulate the palate with things of different flavors. - See the photos, head down (or the photos, or you). - Look at the time, in the mirror. - Change the routine path to go and return home. The idea is, to do some different things, so that you exercise the other side of your brain (the right one), Well worth trying! What if you start practicing right now, using your cell phone, with your other hand, and sending this message to your friends ... ??? 19/12/17, 08:08 - customerelakshya: <Media omitted>
