The Grades Monitoring Tool (GMT) displays a roster of all students with their average and subject-level grades (projected final, current term and the previous term) and count of course failures. The report also shows student demographics, participation in special education and ELL, and standardized test scores. Summary tables and charts are also available that display aggregate trends of grades by subject, course failures, etc. The report enables school leaders and teachers to identify students that would benefit from supports and interventions.
New in 2021! The GMT Plus is directly viewable in SchoolNet. You can also download a copy from SchoolNet and paste it into the GMT Plus in Excel which is an Excel-based design layer to add the colors you see below, as well as summary tables and a list of definitions of terms used within. See the GMT in SchoolNet and GMT in Excel Steppers in “Explore Further” for step-by-step guides on how to access.
Sayre High School uses the Grades Monitoring Tool to monitor progress for students who receive specialized support (i.e. students with individualized education plans). The 9th grade team regularly reviews the “Average Grade by Subgroup” chart in the summary tables tab of the report, and the AP provides an overview of On-Track progress on a student-level using data provided in the student roster tab of the report.
The South Philadelphia 9th Grade Teacher Leader filters the GMT for students with good attendance but failing (or projected to fail) 1 or 2 core courses. If they notice a large disparity in on-track rates for males, they further narrow their list by filtering for just male students. This subgroup list then becomes the focus list for teacher interventions for the next 4-6 weeks. The team uses the Target Group Analysis Protocol to review and analyze the data for this subgroup, then forms action steps.
Furness High School used the GMT to identify students and/or subgroups in need of interventions and developed strategies to support each group (e.g., SPED, ELL/LEP, etc.). They also used an intervention tracker to monitor the work. To learn more, check out this short video describing how Furness is using the GMT.
