***To learn more about Check & Reflect, take the Check & Reflect 101 Asynchronous Course***
Check & Reflect (C&R) provides a single page, printable view of a student’s current grades, behavior, and attendance outcomes to facilitate school personnel/student improvement planning. It is also directly accessible to students through Infinite Campus Backpack so they can monitor their own progress with weekly reviews.
The goal of C&R is to provide students with real-time feedback around their current academic and behavioral outcomes in order to facilitate student reflection and improvement planning. Student access is available through BackPack.
Additionally, C&R is built to facilitate adult-to-student academic advising. PDFs are accessible to Principals, APs, and Counselors.
Note: Educators can now more easily engage ELL students and families in conversations around their data and progress. Check & Reflect is now available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Albanian, Khmer, French, and Arabic. For students whose primary home language is a language other than English, their Check & Reflect report will generate in their home language as well as English.
During remote learning, George Washington administered Check & Reflect to students during advisory by showing students how to pull the C&R through the Backpack in their Student Portal. They reviewed each component of the C&R, and assisted students individually or in small group breakout rooms. By the end of the session, each student completed a reflection form as an “exit ticket.” Through the distribution of C&R, students were able to develop goals for progress and teachers incorporated those plans in Tier 2 interventions.
At Penn Treaty, students review their Check and Reflect every other Friday in English 1 and set goals after reviewing their current progress toward previously set-goals.
At Northeast, students reflect on their C&R report through a Google Form and conference with a staff member to discuss grades and set a target goal. The reflection and conference notes are captured in a PDF file that is emailed to the staff member and student. To learn more, watch this short video describing the work at Northeast.
At Mastbaum, they are using C&R during individual meetings with students and mailing C&R home with the missing assignments report to inform families of student progress. To learn more, watch them describe the work in this short video.
