The Grade Impact Report (GIR) allows you to assess what grading categories are increasing the number of failures and see a full picture of where and how students are struggling on specific tasks. Grading is complicated, and there is a lot of variety in grading practices. This report seeks to help better understand the breakdown of grades and review the number of assignments in each category (e.g., Performance Based Learning, homework, tests), how students are performing in each category, and which assignments are most negatively impacting their grades.

Sayre High School began piloting the Grade Impact Report in 2019-20 during the 9th grade team meetings. They launched it to the entire school in 2020-21. As a school, the 9th grade Assistant Principal, with the help of a PAI Coach, walked through the slides for introducing the Grade Impact Report to teachers and allowed time for teachers to process their individual reports in teacher-led breakout rooms. When the breakout groups returned to the main room, an overwhelming majority of participants reported that they found the tool helpful for understanding the impact of grades and how to support students in being On-Track.
Many teachers focus on students on their Failing Students list who are closest to 60% (passing) for greater attention and/or interventions.
Assistant Principals have found the Grade Impact Report to be a helpful tool for coaching and guiding teachers with high failure rates, to better dissect the issues and plan concrete action steps.
