The Incoming 9th Grader Report is designed to help high school leaders prepare for their incoming 9th-grade class beginning in May of the prior school year (i.e., while the incoming 9th graders are still in 8th grade). This report allows schools to see current attendance and grade information for the students entering their schools in the following year before the information is available in SchoolNet. Note that information will only be available for students that are currently enrolled in a SDP school. This means that data will not be reflected for students currently enrolled in charter schools.
Schools should utilize this report to supplement the information available in the Next Year Report. This data can inform preparation for incoming 9th graders, including scheduling/rostering decisions, deploying in-school resources, and developing other approaches to ease the 8th to 9th grade transition, all aligned toward the greater goal of increasing 9th On-Track rates.
The Incoming 9th Grader Report and the Next Year Report can be utilized independently, or they can be pulled together into the 8th-9th Grade Transition Report tool, in order to view all relevant student information combined in one report.
South Philadelphia’s Assistant Principal used the Incoming 9th Grade Report to identify students for their Honors classes.
Several schools used the report to identify a subgroup of students who would benefit from extra attention and relationship-building over the summer or during the first couple weeks of school.

When is it updated?
It is updated nightly after activating in May each year for the next school year’s 9th grade class. It is mostly relevant between May and August for students finishing 8th grade and transitioning to 9th grade.
How often should it be used?
The primary use case is to prepare for a new class of 9th graders. It is most useful at times when enrollment plans are updated. It can be helpful to roster chairs, climate managers and 9th grade APs to plan for the transition and set-up supports and interventions that students may need.
