“Getting the carte at the prefecture de police was a rite of passage. One felt foreign and very small when confronted with the French bureaucracy for the first time! And what a sense of accomplishment to renew the carte when I was hired as an Assistante for Hollins Abroad Paris. I
have a fun memory of losing the card on the bus from Trocadero to Etoile on a rainy day. The carte fell into a fellow passenger’s umbrella. The lady called the Lauriston office, and I went to her house to retrieve my carte de sejour. Quelle bonne chance!”
This is Olivia Alison’s Carte de Sejour de Resident Temporaire. It is the official ID card required for all students, equivalent to the green card in the US.
