Daily life memorabilia, Hollins Abroad London, Spring 2010
“This is my original Tube map. I used this daily to navigate the London Underground. This is an ornament I purchased to commemorate my experience. I have a few different ones for each city we visited in the UK. This is my ticket to the BBC studios. I recall going there on a field trip with the British Media class. I keep this in the pocket of the coat I wore that day to remember how fun life can be. This is a ticket to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. We would read the plays in our Shakespeare class and then get to see them enacted on stage. Seeing Shakespeare's work where it was meant to be viewed was a priceless experience.” (Harman)
Audrey Harman studied abroad for a semester in London, England, in the spring of 2010. During her time abroad, she collected Ornaments from each of the different cities she visited. The one on display is of a London double-decker bus, which she saw frequently during her time in the city. Additionally, Harman kept her London Tube map, which she used throughout her time in London to navigate her way through the city's complex underground system. The last two items are tickets from class trips Harman took. One is a ticket to the BBC studio, which she went to visit with her British Media class. She recalls keeping the ticket in her jacket pocket as a reminder of “how fun life can be”. The second ticket is for a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Shakespeare’s Globe. She saw this play as part of her Shakespeare class and said that viewing the play as it was meant to be viewed was a priceless experience.
