Today there is over 300,000 active personnel in the Us navy, but that was not always the case. During the American Revolution, the us navy was exceedingly small around in the 1000ths and they fought the British off in the sea but before that Some people called them old horse jockeys but there was one brilliant exception, that was John Paul Jones. He sailed with his crew, captained ships, fought battles, and won battles that were thought to be impossible giving hope for the colonist.

Without his love the sea during his Childhood he would not have become a sailor. Before his journeys and adventures, He was just a young boy. During that time, he was just John Paul, who was born on July 6th, 1747, in the town of Kirk bean, Kirkcudbright, Scotland in a little cabin near the dock. Little John Paul loved to look out the cottage window. He was amazed seeing the huge ships set off. John Paul lived a good childhood. He had five siblings- William, Elizabeth, Janet, Johnny, and Mary Ann who were well cared for by their parents who were John Paul Sr. And his mother Jean Macduff Paul. He would sometimes he would go to the dock and talk to the sailors. He once begged and begged a sailor to teach him how to tie a knot and the man agreed. and he showed him how to tie a knot. He told the kid to practice and come back when he could do it perfectly and that is what the young John Paul did. By the time John was eight he had mastered many knots the sailor was proud of his young pupil, and he even taught the young child how to say somethings he learned in different languages from the places he had visited on his voyages. By the time he was 13 Young is working on a ship. He was an excellent sailor.

Young John Paul was a born sailor and loved the sea and that is why he chose to choose the path to become a sailor. During the time of the American Revolution when he was a full-fledged sailor, the Scottish people who h were being treated unfairly. he also believed in freedom with the Colonist and pursued him to fight with the Colonist and for the Scotts. The Scotland people was his influence

The thing that made John Paul Jones famous was the Battle between the "Bon Homme Richard" (named after Benjamin Franklin) and the British ship named HMS Separis in 1779. The first part of the battle was just relentless gun fire at each other for 3 hours, but then John Paul made his debut around the time were he and his ship were getting decimated by the British and they asked him if he was ready to surrender and then he made his famous quate “I have not begun to fight!” After he made his famous quote that the us navy still remembers today, one of the people on his crew threw a grenade at the British crew and they were the ones who condemned defeat. But after that battle they knew not to mess with him!

John Paul jones was a successful man. John Paul Jones is known for his noble accomplishments during the American Revolution and the one I find the most important is him giving courage to the colonists by defeating a British Force that was much larger than his own (His ship was named Bon Homme Richard" (named after Benjamin Franklin) and the ship he battled was named HMS Separis and this let the British know the Colonist would not let down. I believe without him we would not have the US today. John Paul Jones handles the creation of the US navy, and this was an important thing back then because now they could fight by sea. Today we have the Us Navy mostly because of him.

After his thought to be his historic life, his life went into downfall nobody could have expected. Around the years 1790-1800. He breathed his last breath in his apartment due to what was believed to be Kidney failure. It took 100 years before they found were they buried his body and transferred it to Annapolis where there is a national memorial for him. It is currently unknown to the public where they found his body before transporting it to Annapolis. A Quick fun fact: when they found his body, surpassingly his body was very well preserved. But overall, he was an Important figure in American History.

John Paul Jones will always be an honorable hero for the US Navy, and he was the type of person who was not scared to take a risk if needed and did not accept defeat at any time in any circumstance. Without John Paul Jones we would not have the Us Navy. We memorialize him today with statues and memorials.
