As for mid-term project,
In this lesson plan, I was responsible for conducting the warm-up activity using plane figure transformations and the conclusion and reflection segment. Through this project, I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I have acquired through MAED5511.
For the warm-up activity, I designed a task involving plane figure transformations related to function transformations. Using software Desmos,I demonstrated the effects of various transformations to the students. By encouraging observation and answering questions, I stimulated their thinking and facilitated a better understanding of function transformations. This activity laid a solid foundation for further learning.
In the conclusion and reflection segment, I summarized the key points covered in the lesson. What’s more, I provided differential homework for students, which was divided into two parts, compulsory and optional parts, focusing on distinguishing translation, reflection, and stretch. I engaged the students in a brief Q&A session to gauge their understanding and address any remaining questions. Additionally, I provided supplementary resources and offered office hours for further study and clarification of any concerns.
Throughout this project, I have learned valuable lessons. Firstly, I have enhanced my skills in utilizing software tools for teaching purposes, specifically in demonstrating and facilitating understanding of function transformations. Secondly, I have developed my ability to engage students through interactive activities and promote critical thinking. Lastly, I have gained experience in summarizing and reflecting on lesson content to reinforce learning.
Through observing other groups' presentations, I have gained valuable learning experiences and inspiration. I learned innovative teaching methods, such as using different software tools and resources to enhance student engagement. I also saw how practical applications and real-life connections can be incorporated into mathematics education. These observations have expanded my teaching strategies and motivated me to think creatively about my own teaching practices. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from my peers and I look forward to applying these lessons in my future teaching.
As for the knowledge gained up to week 8 ,
Over the past eight weeks, I have explored the integration of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge through the TPACK and SAMR models. By combining various pedagogy theories and utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS), I have gained valuable insights into effective instructional practices. Additionally, my engagement with Geogebra, Desmos, and ChatGpt has enhanced my understanding of their applications in teaching and learning.
The TPACK and SAMR models have guided my approach to incorporating technology into my teaching. By seamlessly integrating technology tools like Geogebra, Desmos, and ChatGpt, I have moved beyond simple substitution and redefined my instructional practices to create more engaging and transformative learning experiences.
Throughout this period, I have drawn on pedagogy theories such as constructivism, behaviorism, cognitivism, and connectivism to inform my instructional design. These theories have helped me understand how students learn and how technology can support and enhance their learning experiences. By aligning my pedagogical strategies with these theories, I have created meaningful and effective learning environments.
My exploration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) has equipped me with the necessary skills to organize and deliver educational content. Through LMS platforms, I have developed and managed courses, shared resources, facilitated communication, and monitored student progress. LMS has proven to be an invaluable tool for creating student-centered and collaborative learning environments.
In my courses on Geogebra, Desmos, and ChatGpt, I have witnessed the transformative potential of these technology tools in teaching and learning. Geogebra has allowed me to visualize and manipulate mathematical concepts, while Desmos has facilitated mathematical exploration and communication. ChatGpt has provided me with insights into the possibilities of conversational agents in personalized and adaptive learning experiences.
Moving forward, I intend to further improve my instructional techniques and incorporate more diverse and interactive activities into my teaching. I will also seek opportunities to expand my knowledge of other software resources that can enhance mathematics teaching.
Overall, this lesson has been a valuable learning experience, and I am excited to apply the insights gained in my future teaching endeavors.
