Studio Lighting
Key terms
Key light is the main light that you use to take a portrate photo. The light is the biggest to produce more light to be used.
Fill light is used to light up the shadows in a photo showing the form of the model and the details on their face.
Soft box goes around a light and is used to soften the light to create a natural light that doesn't overpower the model and show no form.
Reflector is used to bounce the light back to the source of light to light up the whole model not just one part of them. It is a 5 in 1 side to show different lights and shadows in the picture and different warmness and sharpness.
Remote trigger is connected to the key light sending singles to the light telling it when to flash for the photo.Â
Catch light is the reflection of the light into the eye bringing the model to life and not make them look dead.
Split lighting
Split light highlights one side of the face and shadows the other creating a split in the face. The light would be on one side of the face allowing only one side to be lit up. Small detail can be seen like wrinkles or and uneven surface creating a small shadow on the face on the highlighted side.
