Introduction to State Financial Aid with Growing Inland Achievement and the California Student Aid Commission

This workshop will provide K12 counselors throughout the Inland Empire with information on financial aid topics such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), California Dream Act Application (CADAA), and the Chafee Grant. In addition, we will share resources, such as the CSAC Train the Trainer Program, CSAC Office Hours, and the Cash For College Program.

Julissa Loza Mendez is the Cash For College RCO for the Inland Empire and Coordinator of Network Engagement at Growing Inland Achievement (GIA). Julissa's work includes fundraising Cash for College scholarships, coordinating, promoting outreach, and supporting students to implement the regional Cash For College Program, which is a private-public partnership aimed to increase the FASFA/Dream Act and Cal Grant completion for high school seniors. Julissa graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish. Julissa is a lifetime education advocate and is focused on improving the financial aid completion rate in the Inland Empire by raising the region’s educational awareness.
Victoria Viksne is a trainer at the California Student Aid Commission in the Training and Outreach Unit. Before joining CSAC in 2020, she worked in the Financial Aid Office at Sacramento State. She is passionate about connecting students to the financial resources necessary to pursue higher education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership from Sacramento State.
