Better Together

August 2021 Date night topic

Grab

Ask your spouse: What did I do this month that you liked the most?

Grace

Prayerfully read through Ephesians 5:22-28

Husbands should love their wife as Christ loves his church. The wife should respect her husband and give herself wholly to him. The way Christ loved the church is he gave up His life for the church. That is the same kind of love that God admonishes a husband to love his wife. With such kind of love, the wife should, without question, submit to her husband.

However, many families have a distorted notion of headship and submission. The voices of modern-day feminism shouts equality with men. In God’s teachings, women are equal in stature and not the weaker sex. Wives ought to play a complementary role in the family, his suitable helpmate.

As such, the husband and his wife are a team. The husband is the team captain and the wife is the co-captain. We are designed to be part of a team that will raise Catholic families who will love, honor and serve God. We are better together, complementing each other and not competing with one another.

Gather

  1. For the husband, share with your wife what your struggles are in performing your God-given role as head of the family.

  2. For the wife, share with your husband what your challenges are in submitting to him as the head.

  3. Think of ways you can support each other in your challenges with regards to headship and submission. How can you better support each other so you can both become the best husband and wife to each other?

Go Forth

Device a strategy by which you can remind each other support your God-given role as head (husband) and suitable helpmate (wife) every time we fall short of living it out.

End the date night by praying for each other so your God-given role as husband and wife can be strengthened in your family.
