Number Quiz 1 (Printed for the class).
Number Quiz 2 (Extra for experts).
Monday 5th February 2018: Learning Habit CONNECT - Help each other so that every student has a website.
Join your Google Classroom

Create your "New" google site and personalize the home page.
Submit the PUBLISHED link of your site to Google Classroom.
Learning Habit: Helping each other - we are in this together.
Ask for help when you need it.
If you are confident and know what to do, check around you to see others are okay too.
Learn from each other - you each have unique skills.
Pages your site requires (Scroll down a bit)
A page called Classwork with sub-page
Term 1 Wk 1 to 5
A heading for Week 2
First topic is NUMBER - write 5 sentences about the use of number in everyday life.
These sentences are to be placed under today's date, on the relevant webpage. This makes looking back over your classroom work very easy in the future. You can also add links or images to support your sentences.

Tuesday 6th February 2018 - Waitangi Day
Homework - complete your website setup and the 5 sentences. If your device does not support "New" Google sites, then find an alternative digital tool where you can store your record of learning for 2018. We can talk about this in class.
Wednesday 7th February 2018 - Number Skills & Strive - developing organisational skills
Today you will work through a number of self-marking tests, recording your effort and progress on your website. At the end of the lesson you will reflect on your effort and learning, and your ability to work with other students.
Number Links and 2018 Number Links
By the end of this lesson you should add to your website:
A link to your trophy cabinet
Screenshots of completed and marked activities
A sentence describing some new learning
A sentence about helping others, and seeking help
A sentence describing how focused you were on learning, and how determined you were to learn something new.
Thursday 8th Feb (9NN) OR Friday 9th Feb (9M). Number Pre-test
E-ASTTLE Number pre-test
This test is completed ONLINE so you must bring your device as per usual.
Logons are printed for you and passwords have been reset.
If you do not have a device please borrow one from the school library for the period.
If e-asttle testing does not go ahead, then keep working through the Number activities, recording your efforts on your website.
If you have no device, or can not log in, and cannot borrow one from the library, then get a text book from the back of the room and work through the number chapter.
Note: Ms Allan teaches Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. You will have another teacher for the 4th lesson each week.
Monday 12th February - learning how to peer mark in a productive manner
First half of the lesson
Each group of 4 students will be given 2 posters to comment on.
Write 3 good things about each poster and 2 suggestions.
Second half of the lesson
Continue selecting number activities from Number and updating your website with:
Screen shots of the work completed
Screen shots of certificates earned
Reflections on what you learned and what you need to learn next
Update your website with a reflection on your learning today:
What did you do? What did you learn?
How well did you work together? Where you on task for most of the lesson? Did you enjoy working as a group?
The BIG Idea is to learn from your mistakes, they are the KEY to knowing what YOU need to learn.
Please note: Every Thursday Ms Allan will look at your website and give you a grade. This grade will change each week. Ms Allan will use it to ensure ALL students understand what is required and gives extra support those who need it most.
Tuesday 13th Feb - Number Skills - working at your own level
Working on the home page of your website.
Instructions are on the board and here: Student Voice (Scroll Down)
Complete as many levels as you can of https://maths.prototec.co.nz/
Start at Stage 8
if this is hard, try Stage 6, if that is hard go right back to Stage 2-3 and work your way up
if you get over 90% in Stage 8
Repeat the test until you get 100% learning from your mistakes.
Insert the certificate into your website.
Work through Number resources. (These go right up to NCEA Level 1 so everyone should have plenty to do).
Screenshot evidence of ALL your work and include it on your website under today's date.
Write a reflection about today:
What did you do? What did you learn? How well did you work together? Where you on task for most of the lesson? Did you enjoy working as a group? Who distracted you? Who did you distract? What is your aim for tomorrows lesson?
Note: Because everyone works at their own level collecting evidence of your learning on your website is very important.
Learning Habits:
Create - you are creating a website that you will add to throughout the year
Connect - when you help each other you are developing learning relationships
Reflect - each lesson you write reflections about your learning to help recall the learning and set goals for new learning
Respect - we show respect for everyone's learning by keeping on task and keeping our voices down
phones and headphones are not helping our focus on mathematical learning, hence they have no place in this classroom
Strive - keep up to date with your reflections and evidence and set goals for each lesson
eg. Today I am going to make sure I REALLY understand BEDMAS, I will read notes to answer my question about....
Wednesday the 14th Feb - Number Skills - working at your own level & Numeracy Project Testing on Moodle
Moodle self testing - Numeracy Project - You will need to log into Moodle first.
Continue working through the Number resources.
Write you reflection on your website, remember to create a new 'date stripe' every lesson.
Thursday 15th Feb - 2048 Game - Discover an important number sequence through PLAY
http://2048game.com/ (If it is blocked google "unblocked 2048" to find the game.
After playing this game for 10 to 15 minutes write out the numbers used in order. What is their pattern?
What was your strategy? Can you remember the sequence of numbers up to 2048?
Do these numbers feel familiar to you? Where are they used in real life?
Can you continue the pattern? Check your answer here
Can you write the pattern out using powers/exponents/indices? https://www.mathsisfun.com/exponent.html
Can you find the pattern here?
Extra for experts:
Can you make any connections with this graph? 2048 Graph Desmos
Transum Indicies (You CAN use a calculator)
Numberphile Video (Ignore the advertisement!)
Write your reflection about your learning today:
What surprised you?
Did you know about powers before?
Finished Early? Fractions on Transum get a few more trophies!
