Eric & Edward are going to create a video. The plan was to make it using ScreenCast at Tutor Time, but it was too noisy. The new plan is to create it at home. The video will be on how to make the websites and include the basics: getting started, adding pages, adding images, documents and links.
Connor will also attempt to make a video tonight.
Ideas about ways to further support 2019 students may arise.
Quick chat about the name PAK-ROL, and if this matters right now.
Yes we need a new name, and perhaps it should connect with "websites" and "student voice". Jordan takes Maori as an option, so could ask her class and teacher to brainstorm a suitable Maori name. We like the idea of a Maori name for these student voice websites because it better represents the schools values.
How are the websites going - recording all subjects.
Natasha: Changed from daily to weekly reflections as this is more realistic. Daily was 20 minutes each day, and weekly is starting this week so the time it takes will be reported back next week.
Alice: Absent and device issues have resulted in a week being missed. This is not an issue, but make a note of each page (copy and paste) explaining the gap.
Sophia: Going well, this is an ongoing habit that does not take too long to do. Approximately 15 minutes per day.
Jordan: Going well, this is an ongoing habit that does not take too long to do. Approximately 15 minutes per day. Sometimes a few days are missed, and caught up on.
Emily:Going well, this is an ongoing habit that does not take too long to do. Approximately 15 minutes per day. Sometimes a few days are missed, and caught up on.
Frank: Has changed the format, changed from weekly to daily and it is more clear. 10 minutes a day.
Connor: Mainly he has created the site, getting all the subjects on it. He is yet to develop a routine, as he is not in Ms Allan's class so is new to the website reflection concept. He has looked at Franks site for ideas.
Eric: Going good. Weekly reflections from day one. This takes about 30 minutes per week.
Edward: Updating weekly, takes 25 minutes, which is 5 minutes per subject. (Forgot about the meeting).
Overall: Students feel this would work well next year if all year 9 students start it from the beginning of the year. Some students would require additional support to get a routine. It needs to be enforced at the start of the year so that students get the idea that it is an expectation. We could have Wednesday lunch time support - provided by our leaders in P9. (Continue this group next year).
Eric created this instructional video.
Edward will be designing the Help Site.
Updates regarding the websites:
Natasha: Went back and filled in the gaps that were there due to exams. Now I am up to date. Yet to show other teachers the site. Spoke to her sister and figured out what 'Student Voice' meant in Maori, and will put this on the HOME Page of her website. This could be a good name for the student voice google sites. Reo ākonga.
Jordan: During exams I focused on exams, and updated my website explaining the gaps. Spoke to my Maori teacher and she recommended a Maori Dictionary to add to my site.
Eric: Week 1 to 5 are mostly complete, and week 6 will be completed by the end of the week.
Edward: Week 1 to 5 are mostly complete, and week 6 will be completed by the end of the week.
Create a website
Customization and structure.
Ipad vs Tablet vs Apple vs Chromebook vs Laptop.
Perhaps a page per device type.
We are yet to put all the help videos, and instructions onto a new help site, as they are not yet created. We will leave this for the year 9's of 2019.
We will stop updating the websites now, as the year is winding down and student's have put in a HUGE effort this term.
Big Thanks to all the students who created websites and trialed their use.
We had planned to have time for food and talk about the holidays, however, the Mathex is on so we shall be in the hall instead.
Plan for meetings in 2019: I will put a notice in the daily notices if and when this leadership group is required in 2019.
