Yet again, another incursion broke out. So much happened before, during, and after. I want to go over all of it, so let’s start about thirty minutes before it went down…
We had a Site-wide meeting today. ‘V’ was up on stage, talking about how we shouldn’t say names we don’t know, that words have power, all of that stuff. Things we had all become well aware of by this point. Well, all of us except one. I’m not sure of his name, but it was another member of General Security that fucked us over. This time it was a Private First Class. He didn’t say HIS name… but he said the name of [REDACTED]. In an instant, [REDACTED] was there. He called us “creatures”. We were [REDACTED] it wasn’t even funny. He made a member of the Foundation kill my Second Lieutenant. I watched his body hit the ground; a smile washed over his face mere moments before he was filled with buckshot. Sentinel hit the floor, and [REDACTED] simply told us to [REDACTED]. Then as quickly as he appeared… he vanished. We all went to Medbay to prepare Sentinel for cremation when the Site began to rumble at its very foundations. We didn’t know what was going on, not at first. Then the Volatiles came pouring in…
Chaos erupted. Our forces were scattered, trying their best to fend off the incursion. We were locked in Medbay, fighting for our lives as wave after wave of Volatile came rushing in from thin air. I couldn’t tell you how long we fought for until we managed to plant our feet and begin to push towards the sewer elevator. It felt like we fought for half an hour just making it there. By now we all knew the drill. The incursion was likely from the sewers. But when we got to the cavern… my heart sank.
The entire cavern was covered in mounds and pillars of flesh, obelisks of sinew and meat pulsating and writhing. The runes were glowing red, a massive portal open in the middle of the cave. The Archon stepped out… and all hell broke loose. Volatiles… Ivys… even something new that I’ll dub Bloodsuckers. They all came rushing in. About fifteen minutes in was when I saw the Duke helping us out. Throwing damage out where he could. Healing us when he could. I didn’t know why a member of the cult was actively fighting an incursion, but I wouldn’t question it. It wouldn’t matter though. A barrier of blue transparent energy had formed between us and Xi-8, who were actively fighting the Archon. Once we managed to quell the onslaught of Sarkic, we turned… only to watch the brutal carnage that was unfolding. Arcadia had just gotten his arm torn off. Another Xi-8, one I didn’t know the name of had both arms ripped off and melded to his legs. Utopia… he managed to scratch the Archon with his knife. His reward? Having his head splattered against the pavement, his body thrown into the barrier of blue energy separating us from them. His body liquified and turned into pure blood by the time it hit the barrier. A few around me threw up in disgust. I just stood there in shock. I knew the Archon was nothing to be trifled with, I learned that much in Anchorage. But to see him here inflicting this devastation on Site… it was awful.
Shortly after turning Utopia’s skull into juice, the Archon left. The portal closed, and the Sarkic seemed to retreat of their own will. It was as if Vol’ok was satisfied with the blood he’d spilt and decided to leave us be… for now. We held a service for Utopia, and had his body cremated alongside Sentinel’s. I wept.
During late hours, I found myself conversing with the Duke. As it turns out, Sarkism has two different sects. The “old ways”, which the Duke follows, and the “new era”, which the Archon follows. The Duke says that the Archon has turned into that of a mad titan. An insane lunatic that goes against the very foundation of Sarkism, and for that reason… the Duke has chosen to stand alongside us. The senseless bloodshed wasn’t something that he believed in. I will admit, I’m a little relieved. But I still don’t trust him…
Rest in peace, Sentinel. May Elysium grant you passage.
