Log IV
I think Anchorage is starting to get to my head. For the past few nights, I’ve been having awful recurring nightmares about demons and Ivy's, the very first one being the one that terrifies me the most.
I remember it starting while I was alone in D-Block. I was the only person really awake at the time, apart from Druid and some high-ranking member of NTF that I can’t seem to remember. I think it might have been Gaia. Maybe it was Nu-7. Regardless, I began hearing explosions coming from Greater D-Block. I followed the sound to the hallway connecting the cells to the kitchen. Endless, materialising explosions just went off right in the middle of the hallway. It lasted for a solid five minutes, and I tried calling it out over comms. Dead silence. The moment the explosions stopped, a blue flame began to form. I went to examine it, but it just vanished. I looked around, only to see another one off in the distance. They led me around D-Block, aimlessly following a trail of blue fire until I wound up back where the explosions were. Then the Site went dark…
Upon activating my night vision, I was immediately assaulted by creatures that I can only describe as enemies from Half-Life. I shit you not, actual headcrab zombies began to swarm me, and I was left there with my shotgun and limited ammo. I did my best, making sure every shot counted. I made sure each shell I fired was enough to take down a zombie. I managed to beat them back. But right when I thought I was safe, I heard the unmistakable roar of an Ivy. I felt my heart sink, and I was barely able to turn around before one of its arms clobbered me and sent me flying into the lower reception checkpoint of D-Block. By some grace of the gods, I managed to kill it all by myself. It was at this point that Druid finally answered his fucking radio and told me he’d be there in about seven minutes. So I fought. Seven long minutes of battling headcrabs, demons, even a few Volatiles. I even died once, but whatever cruel entity was haunting my dream decided that it wasn’t done with me. I was revived, with a full rack of ammo and I fought off the remaining force. It was at this time that I went to retreat from D-Block, only to find a giant boulder blocking my way. I couldn't get out… but that meant Druid couldn’t get in either. I was left fending for myself for two more minutes before they finally rushed into D-Block. They were confused. They said that there was nothing in D-Block. That’s crazy. I thought. Of course there is! But when I looked back, D-Block was in pristine condition. The lights were back on. All the blood splattered against the walls was gone. No bullet holes in sight. Hell, even my wounds were gone, and all my ammo restored to max capacity. Druid suggested I get some rest and wandered off.
Of course, I followed him, not satisfied with what the hell was going on. I followed him to Medbay where something took over my body. First a portal appeared, and I was almost forced to go in, mere inches from the portal before I managed to wrench back control over my own motor functions. Not even thirty seconds later, I was once again taken over. This time, I pulled out my shotgun… and aimed it at Druid’s head. Again, I managed to pry control away just before disaster could strike. This was when once again, the blue flame caught my attention again and I left Druid and ‘Gaia’ behind. Shortly after this is when I met the second Ivy. Again, somehow by the grace of the gods I managed to fell the beast. But this time when I killed it… I was sent to a different realm. I blinked, and suddenly I was in a realm covered in red light, like the brightest blood moon one had ever seen. I was in a plane, moving over a dark city beneath me. The plane was going to crash, I knew it would. With no other option… I jumped. I plummeted about 20,000 feet before I hit the pavement, somehow taking no damage. The city around me was in ruins… burnt to a crisp and falling apart. I blinked again. This time I found myself floating high above Twin Pines, the entire area beneath me. I hovered for what felt like forever before I began to fall. This time when I hit the ground, I was teleported back into Medbay.
Frustrated, I went to find Druid and ‘Gaia’, only to see them standing in a recovery room over my own body. No… that couldn’t be. I was standing before the bed! And yet there my body lay… unresponsive and appearing on the brink of death. The blue flame then beckoned some more… leading me past the medical breach shelter and to the elevator to an entity I can only describe. It was black as pitch, humanoid with a head that extended at the top like an upside-down triangle. Two eyes were the only things that stood out amongst the pure void that was its body. I shouted at it, asked what it wanted. It simply pointed behind me, back to the breach shelter. Inside were Druid and ‘Gaia’, standing over a gravestone with my name etched onto it. They mourned the loss of me… and then their heads both snapped and twisted 180 degrees to face me like a scene out of the Exorcist. They both said something incomprehensible in a demonic tongue, and then I woke up in a cold sweat. I can only hope that these are just dreams… but medical have told me that I’ve begun to sleepwalk. Apparently, I scream when I sleepwalk…
