Log VIII
There was another incursion today. They’ve been going on almost every day for the past two weeks. It actually started in D-Block. Me and a few other members of General Security were screwing around in lower D-Block when the first Volatiles appeared. We were unprepared, and almost bit the dust right then and there. By some miracle, we managed to kill them and held down D-Block until Xi-8 made their way down. It was the hardest battle I’ve ever fought, given that other than three Xi-8, it was only me and two other Heavies awake. We held D-Block until we got reinforcements from Xi-8, and then we began to push our way up the General Security elevator, then down the one to the sewers. Gradually, we made our way into the Sarkic cavern deep within the sewers. It was at this time that Ash and Abigail Bathory (who now goes by ‘Sharps’ joined us in the fight against the Sarkic. We pushed them back into the cavern, the room covered in some minor growth of flesh and sinew. CI-8 wasted no time burning the tendrils of meat, and that seemed to quell the incursion. It was a small one, but it still had me worried. This was the third incursion in four days. Something felt off. The Sarkics never invade this much. I aired my grievances to Xi-8, who agreed and said they’d look into it. It was when we were heading to leave the sewers where we met him…
The sound of footsteps click-clacked behind us, and we all swivelled around to find a humanoid figure standing before us. He wore a black suit with a red tie. His face was black as pitch, but when I shined my flashlight over in his direction, I noticed that his “face” was shrink wrapped around his skull. It reminded me of Black Mask from the Batman universe. His eyes were a piercing white, and he stood with a sort of cordial demeanour. He introduced himself as the “Grand Duke”, but we could just call him the Duke. Ash wasted no time racking his shotgun, which only seemed to piss off the Duke. I saw his eye twitch, and the entire sewer began to rumble and shake. His very anger shook the facility, and I trembled in fear. If this was just him pissed off… I didn’t want to see him when he was serious. He and Ash had a big argument, and through the talking I could gather that the Duke was just… checking in on us. He said he was quite fond of us. He didn’t want to see us fall, whatever the hell that meant. He also seemed quite eager to try and recruit us to Sarkism, which none of us were interested in. Just as we were turning to leave, however, my Lance Corporal Brayden caught the Duke’s attention. For whatever reason, he was interested in Brayden. He seemed to be quite fond of my Lance Corporal. He tried to hand him a ring of wood, which Brayden almost took before I had to drag him by the collar into another hallway and leave him there. There was no way in HELL I’m letting him take a gift from a Sarkic, especially one as powerful as this guy. When I turned to confront the Duke… he was gone. I scolded Brayden for even entertaining the idea of receiving a gift from a Sarkic. That sort of shit was going to get him killed one day.
I have a bad feeling about this Duke figure. He says he’s here to help, but I don’t know if I can trust that. He is, after all a Sarkic.
Gods, I hope these Sarkic figures never learn of my last name…
