Why?
The timing of professional learning should be considered in order to maximize the benefits to participants and provide opportunities for the application of new knowledge and skills at optimum times. The time of day, time of year, frequency and duration may impact how and when participants apply their learning to their work.
Guiding Questions:
If professional learning facilitators have flexibility in scheduling learning experiences, the following questions could be helpful:
- When will participants be expected to apply their new knowledge and skills? How will the scheduling or timeliness of the professional learning impact how soon participants will be able to use what they learn?
- Would the input of participants be useful in scheduling the planned learning experience?
- How can participants’ input be quickly compiled and organized?
- When planning an online learning experience, would a scheduled course or on-demand access be the better option?
