Regulations Governing Students Riding School Buses
Our goal is SCHOOL SAFETY. The bus driver is authorized to control students on the bus and is required to report any behavior that endangers the bus's safe operation. Please help us with our safety program by talking to your student about proper school bus behavior and safety. Please call Brown Bus at 208-455-2532 if you have questions about bus rules.
The bus company and the school principal are authorized to refuse service to students if disruptive behavior does not stop.
BUS SAFETY RULES
S Swearing or obscene language is not acceptable.
A Always remain seated.
F Follow the driver’s directions the first time.
E Everyone will be held responsible for their actions.
T Treat equipment and others with respect.
Y You must keep your hands to yourself and inside the bus.
Proper student conduct greatly contributes to the safety of the district’s transportation program. Because student behavior can directly impact safety, inappropriate conduct that threatens safe bus operations will result in disciplinary action.
*Refer to Policy 730 for a detailed list of student behavior expectations
Bus Conduct Discipline Procedures
The bus driver will first endeavor to convey to the student the seriousness of violating any of the rules of student conduct. Upon continued violation, the student management coordinator will refer the student to the principal or designee of his or her respective school. The principal or designee will seek to impress upon the student the need for improvement in bus conduct and may utilize various consequences for initial misbehavior on the bus, including, but not limited to, a warning, an in-school suspension, and/or a conference with the student, parent/guardian, and bus driver. Persistent or serious violations of bus conduct procedures may result in the suspension of the student’s transportation privileges. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, the principal or designee, or the district supervisor of transportation, will suspend the student’s bus transportation privileges as follows:
First (1st) Suspension: Loss of bus transportation privileges for three (3) school days.
Second (2nd) Suspension: Loss of bus transportation privileges for five (5) school days.
Third (3rd) Suspension: Bus transportation privileges may be permanently revoked.
Note: Written notice will be provided to the parent/guardian and building administration for every suspension or permanent revocation of privileges. Suspensions for students with disabilities will follow federal guidelines (IDEA and Section 504) as well as district policy.
ACTIVITY/FIELD TRIP BUS RIDING REQUIREMENTS
Vallivue High School administration expects all students to ride the activity bus or field trip bus both to and from the site of the activity. The reasons for this are:
Team unity
Safety and care of the students
Students may ride home with their own parents from the site provided that:
The parent picks up the student in the presence of the coach, activity advisor or teacher in charge at the site.
The parent signs for custody of the student at that point.
Students may ride home with the parent of another student provided that:
The parents of the student in question must complete the “Vallivue School District – Parent Consent to Private Transportation” form at least 24 hours prior to the event. This form must be turned in to the school activities director, coach, advisor or teacher in charge of the trip.
The parent named in the permission slip picks up the student in the presence of the coach, activity advisor, or teacher in charge at the site.
The parent signs for custody of the student at that point.
Students MUST in all cases ride the bus to the activity site. If there is an urgent need for an exception to this, the parents must contact the school administration at least one (1) day in advance AND complete the Vallivue School District – Parental Consent to Private Transportation form. An administrator will consult with the parents and the coach, advisor, or teacher of the trip and decide upon whether to grant the exception.
