STUDENT INJURIES
Even with the greatest precautions and the closest supervision, accidents can and do happen at school. They are a fact of life and a part of the growing-up process our children go through. Parents need to be aware of this and be prepared for possible medical expenses that may arise should their child be injured at school. Vallivue School District does not provide medical insurance to automatically pay for medical expenses when students are injured at school. This is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians.
The district carries only legal liability insurance. Insurance covering medical expenses arising from an injury may be purchased for students who participate on athletic teams sponsored by the district.
Vallivue School District nurses provide service to multiple schools.
The district may designate an employee other than the
school nurse to care for your child.
To enter or transfer into Idaho public or private schools, children in preschool and grades K-12 must meet minimum immunization documentation requirements before attendance.
Parents may choose to exempt their child from the state school immunization requirements for medical or religious/other reasons (Section 39-4802).
Proof of meeting the immunization documentation requirement requires submitting one of the following:
An official medical record noting the administration of the vaccines, OR
Completion of an Idaho Exemption Form (Spanish), available online or at the school office, or a signed statement as described in IDAPA 16.02.15.
Please upload your child’s updated immunization record to the Infinite Campus parent portal or provide completed records to the school. Immunization records are not sent to the school by medical providers.
MEDICATIONS
Students requiring prescription or over-the-counter medication at school must have:
A completed medication permit form signed by a healthcare provider and by the parent or legal guardian.
Properly labeled medication in its original container.
Medication must be brought to the school by an adult; DO NOT send medication on the bus.
A student may carry emergency medication IF noted by the physician on the permit.
Non-FDA approved medications including home remedies, plants, herbs, vitamins, essential oils and other unconventional forms of medicine will not be administered at school.
VALLIVUE SCHOOL DISTRICT HEALTH GUIDELINES
For the safety of students and staff
To help prevent the spread of illness and ensure well-being, a student will not be allowed to attend school when any one of the following are present:
Uncontrolled or non-contained bodily fluids such as blood, vomit, diarrhea, or nasal secretions;
Fever of 100° F or greater, oral or equivalent;
An undiagnosed skin rash;
Signs or symptoms of illness are present, such as but not limited to, uncontrolled cough, pinkeye, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and/or fatigue.
Parents may opt for a medical evaluation by a primary care provider for diagnosis and treatment, and to help expedite the student's return to school.
A physician release may be requested to confirm the student's return to school date.
Without a physician release to return to school, students with signs or symptoms of illness should remain at home for at least 24-hours after fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications and symptoms improved. In general, “symptoms improved” means that a person no longer feels ill, they can keep up and do their daily routine just as they did before they were ill, and any remaining symptoms, such as a cough or runny nose, are very mild, intermittent, or infrequent and do not interfere with school.
Certain infectious diseases require additional isolation before returning to school. Guidance is available from the CDC Disease & Condition Directory.
