Classroom Technology Important Things To Know
In this section, there are specific things the Technology Department would like to bring to your attention in regards to equipment residing in a classroom. For starters, ALL technology provided by the Vacaville Unified School District that is assigned to a classroom must stay in that classroom. Please read below for more information.
Google Chromebooks
Every single Google Chromebook across this district is managed by both the Technology Department and the Digital Education Coordinators.
When a classroom gets a set of Chromebooks, every individual Chromebook was hand programmed, updated, and labeled by a Technology Specialist. From there, each individual Chromebook is enrolled into our District Google Organizational Database, placed in specific grade level folder that is assigned to each school site.
For example, if a class set of Chromebooks is put in Room 20 at Browns Valley Elementary School, that same class set is also placed in the 6th Grade folder for Browns Valley Elementary in our Google Database.
From there, these Chromebooks pull all the required configurations, settings, apps, and more, for that specific grade level.
Every grade level had their own set of configurations, built by our Digital Education Coordinators.
I have extra Chromebooks. Can I give them to my neighboring classroom who needs more?
Based on everything mentioned above, the short answer is "No".
However, if you find that you do not have enough Chromebooks in your classroom to support the needs of all your students, Request a Technology Specialist for assistance and we can look into adding more.
Nearly all VUSD Printers are connected via Ethernet and configured through our District Network. They run through a print server at every school site, allowing for fast, direct installation to all staff computers.
Having these printers connected through our VUSD network allows the Technology Department to configure and troubleshoot issues remotely, and with ease.
NOTE: ALL printers are configured and labeled to the room they reside in
Moving these printers to a completely different location can cause them to not work.
Reconfiguring and reprogramming these printers can be done. However, it is an involved process.
We'll have to rename and re-label the printer's GUI to match its new location
Reconfigure and assign it a new IP address
Update our inventory database to reflect its new location and new IP address
Re-install the printer to the print server
Then re-install it to all staff computers that had it installed previously.
District telephones are Mitel VoIP Phones (Voice over Internet Protocol phones). Our phone service is delivered through an internet connection.
Phones are programmed with specific extensions and are digitally labeled for the room they reside in.
Where the phones are physically placed is where they are physically programmed to work.
Unplugging the phone and putting it in a different part of a classroom will cause the phone to not work.
If you wish to have your phone relocated to a different part of your classroom, Request a Technology Specialist for assistance.
NOTE: To dial an external phone number from your district phone you must now use the prefix "8" followed by the number you want to call. This replaces dialing 9 to call out. If you do dial 9, just know that it will no longer work.
The new classroom you enter is already supposed to be equipped with the same type of technology to assist you in your classroom. If you find that you are missing equipment, have questions about the equipment you are acquiring in your new environment, and if you need help moving your data from your old computer to the computer in the new classroom, please Request a Technology Specialist for assistance.
Moving To A Different Classroom
If you move to a different classroom, ALL technology in that previous classroom must be left behind in that classroom.
This includes:
Desktop Computers
Mouse/Keyboards
Document Cameras
Classroom Phones
Printers
Chromebooks
Chromebook Carts
Projectors
