Hello, Learning Coaches!
You made it! We've reached the end of the '21-'22 school year. This is the final weekly message for the year. Read below for your end-of-school announcements and tips.
____________
This is the last week of school. The last opportunity to submit assignments is this Sunday, May 22nd at 11:59pm. That is a hard cutoff. Please guide your child to complete assignments well before the deadline.
Our graduation ceremony is on Saturday, May 28th at 4pm. The ceremony will be livestreamed on our school Facebook page for those who will not be attending. Graduates who participate virtually will be recognized during the ceremony. Congratulations to the Learning Coaches of our Class of 2022!
Congratulations in advance to our Learning Coaches of A and A/B honor roll students! Each school level has communicated the method they will use to recognize their honorees. Be sure to read the Canvas Dashboard and all Canvas communications.
Final grades and transcripts will be available in the Student Progress Center after teachers have finalized the grades and the records have been uploaded to the site.
IMPORTANT:
It appears the Student Progress Center underwent a makeover. Thanks to the screenshots that I received from a parent yesterday, we discovered there is a new drop-down menu on the right side of the window after you log in.
If you remember how to log into the Student Progress Center, click here to see what the new Landing Page looks like and where you need to click to get to the page you are accustomed to seeing.
If you need a full refresher on accessing the Student Progress Center, click here. The instructions for the new landing page are included.
[Grades 5-7] The deadline to submit the Elective Selection Survey is today, May 20th.
If you have not submitted the Records Update Form yet and your child is returning next year, it's not too late. We need to know if you are returning. We don't know the status of some of our students, which makes it challenging to process new applications. Click here so we will have your current contact information and will know if your child is returning next year.
Learning Coaches of graduating seniors need to complete the form as well, so we are assured of your current contact information for the Internet Subsidy.
If you did not submit the Records Update Form and your child is not returning next year, please email Grace Lukachick (glukachick@uview.academy) to initiate withdrawal so they can process the withdrawal and provide information about how to return the computer, etc.
The internet subsidy email has not been sent yet. Grace Lukachick says the e-cards are looking good for June. That is later than originally forecasted but this is the first year we are sending e-cards. Additional time is required to ensure everything is done correctly. So, remember to check your Inbox and Spam or Junk folders for an email from glukachick...@gmail.com (not uview.academy; also not the complete address). If possible, I will send a Remind message when the emails are sent.
The '22-'23 school year begins on August 4th! A master school calendar will be posted on the school website early next week. I will send a link to a student version of the calendar next week as well. So, you will receive one more Remind message from me.
___________
[BENEFICIAL] The federal government made a major announcement about cost effective high speed internet earlier this month. The program might benefit some of you by providing a significantly discounted, high-speed connection to your home. This link takes you directly to the website that has the details. If your provider is not listed as one of the 20 participating service providers, don't give up. Scroll down the page and click the link to view an additional 1,300 providers that accept the benefit.
Relevant reminders for the summer are below:
Family Cyber Safety Hub -- Review our cyber safety site and use its resources to set online expectations that will keep your child safe online.
UVA Help Desk -- Computer support. 225-286-1600, Toll-Free 833-286-9905 (7 am until 5 pm, Monday thru Friday)
____________
TIPS AND RESOURCES
If your child has not completed everything, hang in there and guide your child to complete all schoolwork before the May 22nd, 11:59 pm deadline. Apply these same coaching principles if your child will be taking a credit recovery course during the summer session.
Use the Missing Submissions report to identify overdue assignments. It will be a useful source as you guide your child to complete overdue assignments before the 5/22, 11:59 pm deadline.
Review the Modules page (in your child's Canvas account) and look for past activities that are still tagged as "View " or "Submit" rather than "Viewed" and "Submitted." The "View" assignments are where learning occurs.
Redirect your child to complete un-viewed and un-submitted assignments.
Hold your child accountable to agreed-upon expectations for learning and completing assignments.
Remember, you have access to this Communications Hub and your Learning Coach Corner resource year round. There might be a few updates over the summer. So, a bookmarked link might not work. Just send me a Remind message if you want to review something. Here are some pages you might have forgotten about:
Links to Frequently Requested Info (phone numbers, etc.)
Learning Coach Corner (where your detailed Learning Coach training and resources are located)
__________
Well, we've come to the end of this school year. Summer school and enrichment opportunities are ahead for some. Others will not be returning next year because your child is graduating or will attend a different school next year. And many will simply enjoy a break before school begins at UVA next fall. Regardless, we hope you found some of the content helpful in our weekly messages and Info Sessions. And we hope you felt supported by our department throughout the year.
We welcome your feedback if you'd like to see us do some things differently next year. I know we will be tapping some shoulders to encourage a few of you to be peer coaches in our Info Sessions in '22-'23. Hearing from each other is oftentimes more valuable that hearing us drone on about how to do things. So, if you are interested in participating in a supporting role in our Info Sessions next year, send us an email at LearningCoachSupport@uview.academy or send a Remind message.
I will send a Remind message next week with the link to a student version of the '22-'23 school calendar. Until then, enjoy the weekend and good luck to those of you who are not returning next year. :-)

TIPS AND RESOURCES
[Makeup LEAP Testing Tips -- UPDATED from last week] If your child is in a LEAP course and is testing next week, prepare yourselves as follows:
Pay attention to communications about the location, days, and times of your child's makeup test site. It might not be the same as the original test site.
Watch the test site video with your child so you are familiar with the location in advance. It will lower anxiety.
Follow the instructions that are provided in the test site video for parking and entering the building. It will eliminate confusion and frustration.
Do everything you can to be at the test site on time. Testing for a group cannot begin until everyone is seated.
Charge the laptop every night and take the laptop and the charger to the test site every morning. (Students have been forgetting the charger.)
Discuss the time to get up, go to bed, etc., this weekend so everyone will be prepared for changes in your routines.
Be more diligent than ever until the semester ends.

(5/6/22) Weekly Message From Your Learning Coach Support Team
Hello, Learning Coaches!
May has arrived and we are busy with all kinds of things -- LEAP testing, graduation preparation, course wrap ups, preparation for summer courses (credit recovery and enrichment), you name it! The end is drawing near, everyone. So, read below to see what you need to be aware of.
____________
[Subsidy Email UPDATE] Student Services is resolving an email issue so they can send the first email about the Internet Subsidy e-cards. (Referenced in last Friday's Weekly Message.) Ms. Lukachick offered the following advice, "...remind families who have not submitted the [Records Update] form to do so. If they did not, they will have an email from me asking to do so. Internet subsidy is still coming and I will be sending that information as soon as possible."
As a reminder:
You will receive a series of notices via the special gmail.com account. The first email will provide information about the subsidy e-cards. Everyone who submitted the Records Update Form will receive this first email glukachick...@gmail.com. (I am not giving you the complete address so they will not receive incoming emails on this account right now.)
If you did not submit your Records Update Form, you will not receive this first email. (You can still submit your form but please do not re-submit it. That adds more work to the Student Services Department.)
If you are uncertain about having submitted the form, send an email to glukachick@uview.academy to ask.
Please remember that the declaration of your Intent to Return (or not) next year was part of the Records Update Form. If you receive an email from the gmail.com account, that is a confirmation that your Intent to Return was processed.
[LEAP 2025] Testing for most students in grades 3-8 (plus Tallulah high school students) begins next week. (Leesville 3-8 students tested this week.) Testing will last the entire week.
Details about locations, times, and dates are in the letter that was uploaded to your child's Canvas account before Spring Break. Navigate to the testing letter in your child's Canvas account to get the times and location of the site as follows:
ACCOUNT > FILES > TESTING
You must log in to your child's account. The letter is not available in your Observer account.
Videos of each test site are available here. The videos were prepared by our Marketing Department and will allow you and your child to see where they will be going. Please take a few minutes to watch if you have never been to the location.
Daily check-in codes will be sent via Remind and Canvas. Wherever you received the message that led you to this weekly message will be one of the places where you will receive the check-in code every morning. That might be the Remind app, text, or email. It depends on how you have things set up on your end. Or you can check Canvas. So, be watchful every morning.
PBIS awards have been issued for April. Please read the Canvas message that was sent to recipients yesterday. The Advisory course card provides information about the PBIS program.
Please note if your child is not returning next year, you will want to redeem the points before the school year ends. Points rollover for returning students. (That's how one of our students purchased a gaming chair last year!)
Have you seen our Virtual Art Exhibition from our talented arts students? Take a look here. The work is incredible!
[Graduating Seniors] Mrs. Martinez sent a time-sensitive email to graduating seniors last Friday, April 29th. A long list of tasks was included in her email, and they are due this Sunday, May 8th. Please ensure your graduating senior completes everything on schedule.
___________
Canvas messages regarding Elective Selection Surveys were sent to students currently in grades 5-7. The deadline to submit the survey is May 20th.

TIPS AND RESOURCES
[Repeated from last week for our upcoming test week] If your child is in a LEAP course and is testing next week, prepare yourselves for a change in routine as follows:
Discuss the time to get up, go to bed, etc., the weekend before testing begins so you both have time to adapt to the upcoming changes.
Watch the test site video with your child so you are familiar with the location in advance. It will lower anxiety.
Do everything necessary to be at the test site on time.
Remember, children pick up on our energy. Present a demeanor that conveys confidence and a bit of excitement about seeing some of the parents and students at the test sites.
Charge the laptop every night and take the laptop and the charger to the test site every morning.
Relax. It will be fine. Your child might be up and dressed before you are on the second day of testing. :-)
It is not too late to do the following. In fact, be more diligent than ever from now until the semester ends.
Run a Missing Submissions report in your Observer account
Review the Modules page (in your child's Canvas account) and look for past activities that are still tagged as "View " or "Submit" rather than "Viewed" and "Submitted." The "View" assignments are where learning occurs.
Redirect your child to complete un-viewed and un-submitted assignments.
Hold your child accountable to agreed-upon expectations for learning and completing assignments.
__________
I think it's going to be hot in all regions of the state this weekend. Do your best to stay cool!
And to our mothers and mother figures -- Have a Happy Mother's Day!
Take care.
