Hello, Learning Coaches!
We are in the second nine-week period of this semester and have entered the home stretch. Our combined attention should be focused on the education of your children to ensure they are receiving everything they need from us and from you. Please read below for pertinent announcements, reminders, and tips.
____________
Our Student Services Department released the Records Update Form on Tuesday via email, and I sent the message via Remind. The form is used to:
Indicate your intentions about returning to UVA next year.
Update or confirm your contact information. This is used for multiple purposes including verification of your mailing address so your $150 Internet Subsidy prepaid debit card can be mailed to the correct address later this semester or shortly after the semester ends.
The deadline to submit the form is Friday, April 15th. Click here if you are ready to submit your form. Thanks to those of you who submitted your form already!
Email your questions to StudentServices@uview.academy or call 225-421-2900.
Open Enrollment is underway for next school year. If you want to enroll another child at UVA, please click here. The "Enroll Now" button is on the home page of our school website.
The intention is to give siblings priority. So, the sooner you apply, the better. That way, the Enrollment Department will know how many additional openings we have for new families.
Our March Learning Coach Info Sessions were yesterday. Directors from the Testing organization were our guest presenters at the noon session, and we replayed that segment during the 5pm session. I also walked through the Records Update Form so you will know what it looks like and can submit it without delay.
The testing presentation answered many of the questions that you submitted on our test questions form last week, and they provided additional information for you as well. Learning Coaches indicated they felt much more informed (and relieved in some cases) after attending the session.
The noon recording is available on the Learning Coach Info Session Recordings page. I am only making that session available because there were some technical issues during the replay of the segment at 5pm.
If you have additional questions after watching the recording or if you asked a question that was not answered during the general session, send an email to the Testing Director for your child's grade level. Email addresses are available in the Testing Newsletter.
[Grades 8-10 -- Zip codes 70129, 70128, 70127, and 70126] The STEM Pathfinder Program prepares high school students for successful STEM careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Their one-week summer program will focus primarily on exploring healthcare careers while being mentored by Ochsner healthcare professionals.
Applications are being accepted through March 31st. That's next Thursday. Learn more here.

TIPS AND RESOURCES
Your daily Learning Coach routine is especially important right now. So:
Run a Missing Submissions report in your Observer account
Review the Modules page (in your child's Canvas account) for every assignment for the day including activities tagged as "View " to ensure they are learning before Submitting a graded item.
Redirect your child to complete un-viewed and un-submitted assignments
Be consistent.
Consider using an incentive plan to encourage engagement in school (Stickers or a point system to earn privileges might be just the ticket.)
Your child is halfway to the finish line for the school year.
The remainder of a K-2 school year lays the last parts of a crucial foundation for your child's overall education.
If your child is in 3rd grade or higher, important testing events (e.g., LEAP 2025, credentials, AP, etc.) is only a few weeks away. Some high school tests are underway right now.
Graduating seniors are focused on closing out the school year and moving into a new chapter of life.
Our students need their Learning Coaches.
Focus your attention (and that of your child) squarely on learning from here forward.

We hope none of you suffered any damage in the storm that moved through Louisiana this week. Please be careful if you are engaged in recovery efforts. Send an email to Mrs. Hollins (thollins@uview.academy) if you are displaced because of the storm.
Otherwise, the weather should be nice this weekend. I hope you will have time to enjoy it.

Many children and adults live with ADHD. Understood.com released an article this week entitled ADHD and Anxiety: How They Overlap. It's very interesting and might be helpful.
They also shared an article entitled Why Discipline for Kids With ADHD is Different. Feel free to check it out as well.

3/11/22) Weekly Message From Your Learning Coach Support Team
Hello, Learning Coaches!
We hope you and your children had a nice Mardi Gras Break. We're back with a jam-packed schedule. Read carefully below.
____________
The nine-week period ends this Sunday at 11:59pm. That is a hard deadline so that grading can be completed.
Nine-week progress reports will be uploaded to the Student Progress Center after teachers finish grading assignments submitted this week and finalize grades for the period. Stay tuned to Canvas communications about the timeline for access.
If you fall into one of the categories below, refer to this document to learn how to setup or access the Student Progress Center:
You are new this semester*
You enrolled an additional child this semester*
You need a refresher on how to access your Student Progress Center account
*Learning Coaches of new students, the linked document above references a "Parent Info" letter that provides instructions for setting up the Student Progress Center. The letter might not be available today, but it will be available before progress reports are uploaded. Be watchful.
[8th - 11th Grade] '22-'23 Scheduling ends soon!
All students in grades 8 thru 11 have a new "22-23 Scheduling" course card on the Dashboard. The course contains everything you need to work on next year's classes with your child and the counselor.
Scheduling information will be available through Sunday March 13th.
From the Counseling Department, "[H]igh school counselors have individual appointments available through March 11 for students to meet one-on-one about their schedules. Please reserve an appointment time to discuss your child's progress toward graduation and individual schedule needs for next year."
Our March Learning Coach Info Session date is March 24th! Sessions will be at noon and 5pm.
The main topic is "In-Person Testing." Representatives from the Testing organization will be present to answer your questions and highlight some key points! To help them tailor their presentation to address your needs, please complete this In-Person Testing Questions Survey no later than next Friday, March 17th.
Please refer to the updated Testing @ UVA Newsletter for test dates and new contact names and email addresses.
Field Trips and Events are back! We are excited to be able to offer in-person enrichment activities for our families once again. Lots of our families were excited, too, because some of the events filled up quickly! If the registration form allows you to get on a wait list, do that. Sometimes families are unable to attend an event they signed up for. The March field trip and events flyer is available on the Events Corner page of your Learning Coach Communications Hub.
While we were on Mardi Gras break, LineWize released their final message to close the month of February in support of Safer Internet Day. Go to your Cyber Safety announcements page to learn more about "Online Predators" and how to have a conversation with your child about this important topic.

If your child has not participated in an in-person test event and is in 3rd grade or above, it's time to start preparing them if you have not done so already. Testing presents a new routine for your child (and for you) that must be sustained for a few days in a row.
We will share some tips in the March Info Session on the 24th but start thinking about it now. Look at the Testing@ UVA Newsletter so you can decide when it's a good time to start preparing your child for a change in routine. (TIP: The night before is too late.)
BTW -- Most students get excited about seeing their classmates for a few days in a row. We know in-person testing can be disruptive but it's necessary because we are a public school and must test our students in-person. So, start preparing yourselves as well.
