Hello, everyone!
We continue to enroll new students. So, "Welcome!" to our newest Learning Coaches. Our Weekly Messages keep you informed and provide coaching tips and resources that will keep you going throughout the year.
Brand new Learning Coaches, please be aware that some of the messages might not apply to you right away, especially if you and your child are still onboarding. I still recommend that you read the entire post so you are aware of its contents. Weekly messages remain posted. So, you can re-read a message any time.
Here is the audio link for today's message if listening will be more convenient.
____________
If your child is a new enrollee and you have not completed the recent survey about the status of the school laptop, please check your Remind account for the link. You may resubmit the form if you have a status update. You received the survey link if your child's enrollment date falls between 8/5/21 and 8/25/21.
From our Superintendent regarding Tropical Storm Ida:
Good morning UVA Families,
We are closely monitoring the weather conditions centered around Tropical Storm Ida. We will keep families informed as the storm path moves closer to Louisiana. As of now, we plan to continue with normal school operations. However, we remain 100% dedicated to working with any students and families who may be impacted by this storm.
Please stay safe, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Michelle Clayton, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Look for specific guidance from your child's teachers about assignments for Monday and Tuesday.
If you are a new Learning Coach and you have not reached "Phase II -- Course Selection and Canvas Training" in the onboarding course, you will eventually reach a page entitled "Create/Update the Learning Coach (Observer) Account." That page follows "Let's Log in, Students!" Please make a note so you do not overlook the page.
If you are a new Learning Coach who has already completed Phase II, but you did not create your Observer account, please click here and return to the instructions in UVA Onboarding Course to create the account. Please complete this task as soon as possible.
If you are a returning Learning Coach and you (1) have not used your Observer account in a while and do not remember how to log in, or (2) you do not remember if you have an Observer account, please reach out to me via Remind.
Reference this page for a reminder about where your child's Testing folder is located. (TIP: It's in the student's account, not your Observer account.)
Run a Missing Submission report every day as one of the tools you use to help your child stay on pace. Review how to run or access Missing Submission reports for overdue assignments here.

I've kept this one short so you have the essentials you need for next week. Please be safe if you are in the path of the storm. We also know several families are dealing with illness and family emergencies. You are in our thoughts as well.
Take care and be safe!

Hello, everyone!
We added more new students and Learning Coaches to our family this week. Welcome to your first weekly message for Learning Coaches. We use these messages and this Learning Coach Communications Hub to keep you informed and to provide coaching tips and resources to keep you going throughout the year.
Brand new Learning Coaches, please be aware that some of the messages might not apply to you right away, especially if you and your child are still onboarding. I still recommend that you read the entire post so you are aware of its contents. Weekly messages remain posted. So, you will be able to re-read a message any time.
Messages are usually recorded if listening is more convenient, but be prepared to return to this page if you need to access a web link. Here is the audio link for today's message.
____________
Thank you, new Learning Coaches, for your patience and persistence as we worked through a laptop shipping backlog. New enrollees are beginning to receive their laptops within a few days of their enrollment. Please look for a FedEx shipment notification very soon.
If you joined us before Monday of this week, have not received the school laptop or a notification yet, and have not notified me about the laptop already, please send me a Remind message to let me know.
Our department is expanding further, and you will be able to receive additional support from us soon.
I introduced Mrs. Hollins last week. She provides administrative support. In addition to working on many tasks that occur in the background, Mrs. Hollins answers my phone when I cannot. She also contacts Learning Coaches from time to time to provide information and assistance.
We have a new addition to the department as of today. Mr. Wade Henderson is our new Director of School and Home Relations. You will begin to hear from Mr. Henderson in the next few weeks. He will assist me in providing Learning Coach support, and we will be working on new ventures that you will be excited to learn about down the road.
We are very excited about the expansion of my department so we can provide even more support to you and your children. Look for announcements from us in the coming weeks after Mr. Henderson completes his onboarding period.
Semesters are divided into 9-week periods this school year. Be sure to ask the Advisory teacher for assistance in understanding the 9-week grading period if you have not watched the back-to-school orientation recordings (available at the previous link). That will ensure you are guiding your child to complete assignments within the 9-week interval.
The federal government's discount internet service program is still available for eligible households. Click here to learn more about the program and to find out if your household is eligible.
Every student is expected to have an Observer in Canvas. Those accounts are important for monitoring the student with the recommending Missing Submissions Report that is only available in the Observer account. In addition, teachers are unable to communicate with you directly via Canvas (and vice versa) if your account has not been created.
We will begin an audit of Canvas to identify students without Observers next week. Please beat us to it and create your account. Read below for additional guidance.
If you are a new Learning Coach and you have not reached "Phase II -- Course Selection and Canvas Training", in the UVA Onboarding Course, you will eventually reach a page entitled "Create/Update the Learning Coach (Observer) Account." That page follows "Let's Log in, Students!" Please make a note so you do not overlook the page.
If you are a new Learning Coach who has already completed Phase II, but you did not create your Observer account, please click here and return to the instructions in UVA Onboarding Course to create the account. Please complete this task by Monday morning if you can.
If you are a returning Learning Coach and you (1) have not used your Observer account in a while and you do not remember how to log in, or (2) do not remember if you have an Observer account, please reach out to me via Remind.
____________
Set the tone for the school year by communicating your expectation of high engagement every day. Establish a routine right now to use one of the following Missing Submission reports every day.

Split-screen mode is required sometimes to help your child be efficient when learning. Instructions to split a browser window are available for Mac and PC on this page in Learning Coach Corner. (Don't forget Learning Coach Corner is there for you. You will find tech tips along with numerous articles on a variety of topics ranging from coaching a child with learning style differences (e.g., ADHD) to available screening services, district and state testing, and more. Check it out.)

Hello, everyone!
Welcome to our newest Learning Coaches, and welcome back returning Learning Coaches. This is your first official weekly message of the '21-'22 school year. We use these messages and this Learning Coach Communications Hub to keep you informed and to provide coaching tips and resources that will keep you going throughout the year.
Messages are usually recorded so you can listen to them if that is more convenient. The audio link is provided in the Remind message that brought you to this page on the Communications Hub. When one of the sections below includes a weblink, the recording lets you know to access the link here on the Communications Hub. Here is the audio link for today's message.

As a reminder, our semesters are divided into 9-week periods this school year. This is new for our returning families. Be sure to ask the Advisory teacher to explain the 9-week period model if you have not watched the back-to-school orientation recordings (available at the previous link) so you can guide your child to complete assignments within the 9-week interval.
The federal government's discount internet service program is still available for eligible households. Click here to learn more about the program and to find out if your household is eligible.
New students' laptops are being prepared for shipment. Please look for a FedEx shipment notification regarding a delivery date. If you joined us before Monday of this week and have not received a FedEx shipment notification yet (please search your email account), send me a Remind message to let me know.
Please be aware that my phone calls might be answered by Mrs. Thomas Hollins, my Executive Administrative Assistant, if I am unavailable. Mrs. Hollins might reach out to you on my behalf as well. So, please make a note of Mrs. Hollins' name for future reference. Please note -- Remind is still the most effective method for communicating with me. I can answer multiple Learning Coaches at one time via Remind, but I can only speak with one person at a time. :-) You will always be in good hands with Mrs. Hollins.
Every student is expected to have an Observer in Canvas. Teachers can only send Canvas messages to a students' Learning Coach if the Observer account has been created. In addition, you have access to a monitoring report that is only available in the Observer account.

If you are a returning Learning Coach and have not used your Observer account in a while or are uncertain about whether you have an Observer account, reach out to me via Remind so we can check the status.
