Senior Sunrise: A Reflection

Senior Sunrise is a heartwarming, yet heartbreaking, event for the seniors. It is a symbolic beginning of the end of our high school career. Seniors gathered at 6:15 on the bleachers on the first Friday of the year. They all huddled together with donuts, waiting before light peeked over mountains on the horizon. Thinking back on their high school career and how different their lives would be next year. Some are going to be gone next year missing their teachers and their younger friends they will no longer have the warm, comforting familiar feeling of the Ukiah High campus. “It was a really great bonding experience for us”, Cheyenne Rubio said. “I think everyone who went really enjoyed it,” she beamed. Christian Rhodes agreed, “Senior sunrise was fun. It was symbolic of us growing,” … “I was sad that the high school adventure is almost over.”

Senior sunrise is a chance for students to reflect on what they’ll miss from Ukiah High, and what they’re looking forward to:

What are you looking forward to senior year?

Cheyenne Rubio: “I'm really looking forward to after college applications are due so that we can all just relax and spend time together before we all leave. Up until then it's going to be really stressful but that's okay it’s all part of the bonding experience we’re going to grow through it.”

Christian Rhodes: “I'm looking forward to making a lot of memories this school year. I'm also really looking forward to graduating so that all the hard work may pay off.”

What will you miss when you graduate?

Cheyenne Rubio: “I'm going to miss the teachers more than anything. I've made some really amazing relationships with my teachers over the last four years and going into college without their help and guidance is going to be really hard”

Christian Rhodes: “I'm going to miss the teachers a lot because a lot of them helped me and the students because it’s going to be strange to not see them again and i'm going to miss the warm familiar environment.”

When senior sunset comes around this spring, the lives of these seniors will be transformed; this chapter of their lives over. For now, we have this year to appreciate each other and make our final moments memories at Ukiah High.
