Get Your Club On
There are many to spend your lunch at Ukiah High, but if you want to get involved, joining a club is the fastest way to do it while making new friends. There are over 20 clubs on campus. Here are three that might be the right fit for you:
Environmental Club
If you love nature, free food, and saving the planet, come to Environmental Club. Every Tuesday in H14, members discuss projects over pizza in a laid back setting. “I love environmental club because everyone is passionate, positive, and caring about our future,” says Brittney Rasmason. The club is building a school garden, and participates in community cleanups as well as their own campus cleanups. If you have any ideas regarding making our school more eco-friendly, feel free to come to a meeting! If you’re looking for a fun environment or new friends, still come to Environmental Club! Also, keep an eye out for them selling water bottles at the homecoming game.
Work in Progress
Are you looking for a place to stand up against injustice in our community? Every Tuesday at lunch in E-4, people like Ayled Zazueta are working to, “open people’s minds so we don’t have gender roles or racial stereotypes.” This club is full of positive students willing to help others through even the smallest acts of kindness. “I’m really passionate about Work in Progress because I really do care about the people in our community,” she tells. Not to mention, throughout all of her interview, she’s beaming. Although this club is only in its second year on campus, members have already raised funds for Project Sanctuary, and are looking to provide self defense classes. If you’re looking to have a voice, or want to hear about those with voices seldom heard, Work in Progress might be the club for you.
Milk Club
Do you like milk and cookies? Or cereal? The Milk Club has plenty of both for free, Fridays at lunch in class E-1. Milk Club strives to be a fun and comfortable place where anyone on campus can get together and be interact with each other. The club’s president, Steven Myers, said in an interview “We want to get people together and allow them to socialize, and inform people how good milk is” There has been talk about field trips and other club activities, and one member has begun designing some Milk Club dad hats. For those who are lactose intolerant or choose not to eat dairy products, non-dairy alternatives such as almond milk have begun being provided to allow anyone and everyone to be part of Milk Club.
