We’re blessed rarely with the confluence of evil and dread when Friday the 13th appears. Today celebrates the dark, the weird, the unexplained. This writer has dug into the roots of Friday the 13th.

Knights Templar

According to National Geographic The Knights Templar were a religious order of unmarried men, formed around A.D. 1119 to defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem and protect Christian pilgrims during the Crusades. Over the next two centuries, Christians donated their land and their money to the order (as was common with religious societies), making the knights powerful financiers. The Templars continued passing around money and land until 1307, when the French King Philip IV, who was running low on funds, decided to go after theirs. Dan Brown's The Davinci Code novel mentioned that this famous order of knights was arrested, tortured, and killed on Friday, October 13, 1307.

Friday the 13th Movies

There have been 10 Friday the 13th movies the original film in the 1980’s and the most recent in 2001. There are rumors that Jason will return sometime within the next few years to stalk and kill a group of friends one by one.

Jason Voorhees

Jason has appeared in several different movies and games throughout the years here’s a little back story on the monster. Jason Voorhees was born deformed and that ends up causing problems during his childhood. Jason tries to prove he’s not any different than anyone else and tries to swim in crystal lake and drowns. Jason wasn’t the killer until Friday the 13th part two.His mother (the cook at camp crystal lake) is upset and seeks revenge on the counselors for Jason’s death and goes on a rampage until she is decapitated by Alice Hardy. Jason is somehow alive and has grown into an adult and is hunting Alice to avenge his mother. Jason goes back to crystal lake and guards it from intruders. Jason didn’t always have the famous hockey mask he wears to hide his face at first he wore a pillowcase to hide his face. Jason has been beaten and even killed multiple times through out the moves but has always come back. He’s been hit in the head with an axe and survived, he’s had his face cut off by a boat propeller and still came back, has been drowned in the lake but got revived by an electrical cord.
