The rotational engineer program requires an active effort from the Rotational Engineers. At a minimum, Rotational engineers are responsible for:
Report to the first assigned location for training.
Participate in all areas of training as assigned and comply with all rules and procedures observed in the areas assigned.
Provide written reports to Training Manager of outlining accomplishments and experiences for each rotation. Upload reports to the UPM “Attachments” tab.
Communicate work related problems or requests that cannot be resolved to the Training Manager.
Work to find a permanent position beginning no later than 6 months before completion of 4 years.
Permanent assignment availability will be through the current job posting system.
Pass Professional Engineers License and notify the Training Manager and Human Resources Office with appropriate documentation.
The direct supervisor of a Rotational Engineer is critical to the development and timely progression of each Rotational Engineer.
Supervisors of Rotational Engineers should be in close contact with the Rotational Engineer and actively participate in the Rotational Engineer Program.
Below are some of the activities in which supervisors will take part:
Clearly explain the rotation and expectations.
Know requirements of rotational engineer to effectively fulfill their rotation. See the outlines of potential learning objectives for each rotation as a starting point.
Define initial purpose for specific positions in the area
Day-to-day rotation supervisors and Rotational Engineers add three to four specific goals or objectives that reflect specific functions of the rotation.
Outline training requirements
Understand job expectations and create an environment of accountability
Clearly define tasks along with schedule and outcomes
Communicate regularly
Meet briefly on a regular basis (Recommended at least monthly) with their Rotational Engineers to identify objectives and outcomes desired.
Hold recurring meetings to touch base with any issues, concerns or challenges that are immediately facing them.
Provide performance feedback
Set up performance plans for Rotational Engineers using a UPM-based template that includes general objectives and goals that are universal to the program. The comments by supervisors will be stored in the notes section of this document to support annual reviews.
Communicate performance strategy
