USDB: Outreach Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Sara is a USDB Outreach teacher for the Deaf/HH, serving school age children and youth in the Southern Utah Counties. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Utah Valley University in Deaf Studies with an Interpreting Emphasis in 2015. Currently she is working on her Deaf Education Masters at the University of Utah. Sara is a Professionally Certified ASL interpreter, and worked as an educational interpreter and freelance interpreter after graduation. Prior to her involvement in the deaf community, Sara studied acting and theater arts at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she earned an Associate of Arts in Performing Arts. She worked as a paraprofessional educator in the field of special education while living in Whitehall, Pennsylvania. Sara served an ecclesiastical mission in Los Angeles, California, where she spoke Spanish with people from all over the world. Sara’s passion for creativity and her love of people has led her to her teaching career in the Deaf/HH community. She thrives on the gifts of language and communication, and enjoys empowering children and youth with the tools they need to succeed and accomplish their dreams. Some of Sara’s favorite things include adventures with her family, dancing while cooking in the kitchen, and reading, writing, and acting in stories.
