To whom it may concern:
I have teaching experience within the grades 1st-12th in a variety of settings. My practicum experience was completed in the UPR Elementary School teaching English Language Arts to 4th grade, obtaining a perfect score in the final practicum evaluation. I am currently teaching ELA in TASIS Dorado School, and I have taught ESL and Conversational English in CEDEA Private School and Niños de Nueva Esperanza, an after school educational program. In addition, as a former student assistant of the Recruitment and Retention Program of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, I also have experience orienting High School students and motivating them to seek higher studies within a University that attends their needs and interests.
I have been involved in activities that create and incorporate community service projects into educational environments. Within organizations such as 5-11 Public Relations, Peer Student Counseling Program (Estudiantes Orientadores UPR-RP), Student Councils, PRTESOL, FCCLA and NSCS UPR-RP Chapter, I have been able to create proposals in which students are immersed in community service and create activities that enrich communities and help their development. A few examples of this are the following: Roadtrip Esperanza with 5-11 Public Relations which is a massive community service marathon done in various centers and communities in one day during 5 hours by University students, workshop planning with PRTESOL to create educational activities for a community of teachers in an accessible way to all, March to College Day with NSCS, a day to host High School students in the University campus for a day of activities and orientation, and much more.
I believe my teaching experience and passion for community engagement make me an ideal candidate for a teaching position at any school. I base my curricular map on creating leaders, teaching for life encounters, integrating culture and community reality, and developing entrepreneurs. There is more than language learning in my classroom. In it there is art, history, technology, entrepreneurship, culture appreciation, and analysis of what surrounds us. All of which build a great individual.
It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, creative and a proactive teacher who will make a positive contribution to any school and community.
Cordially,
Lorein Simmons
