Professional Development
The teacher reflects on professional responsibilities and educational practice, evaluates the effect of their decisions and actions on the other members of the school community (students, parents, administrators, other educational professionals) and the broader community based on ethical principles of his/her profession and specialty; actively seeks professional growth.
As part of the competency 10, I present documents that demonstrate the professional preparation of the educator. This preparation provides tools for the teacher to face the diverse situations that occur in the classroom and the community.

These certificates were provided after participating in conferences or workshops. These events were based on the ethical principles of the profession and specialty. Among the evidences are: "Tallereando por la paz", a workshop that promotes the education of peace by the UNESCO. The topics studied included: community dance for peace, pedagogical knowledge to transform teaching spaces, eco-pedagogy and awareness, theater to build another possible world, health promotion and culture of peace, anti-racist and decolonization education. Given the multiple manifestations of violence that we live in Puerto Rico, it is essential that educators assume in their professional training the need to integrate new paradigms, approaches, practices and principles. Education in human rights and for peace, as a pedagogy centered on him and the student, pursues the development of habits of critical questioning about society, power, injustices and the possibilities of change.
I participated of the "XIII Puerto Rican Education Research Congress" which was held in the College of Education of the Río Piedras Campus in the University of Puerto Rico to discuss changes in the educational systems P-16: Restructuring, reform or transformation? from March 11th to 13th, 2015. The Congress had the participation of researchers from the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe who gathered at the Campus to discuss issues such as educational reforms, teaching gender perspective , special education, among others. During the event I attended a workshop and two conferences that broadened my mind and informed me about changes that are taking place in the teaching profession. Finally, I participated in the conference "Montessori Education" led by the speaker, Eduardo Cuevas. The environment of Montessori education offers the child opportunities to engage in interesting, freely chosen work, which leads to prolonged periods of concentration that should not be interrupted. Freedom develops within clear limits that allows children to live together in the small society of the classroom. Children work with scientifically designed concrete materials, which provide the keys to explore the world and to develop basic cognitive skills.
All these activities contribute to my professional and personal growth. Based on these I will be able to successfully perform in the classroom and I will be able to be of greater help to my students because I will be able to recognize their needs and I will have the elements to guide them.
Blog Creation Workshop
Blogs are an innovative way of maintaining contact with students, creating a network for teachers or even keeping a public diary. Due to this, I participated of a professional workshop about the use of Blogs within the educational curriculum. We were taught about the correct usage of it, how to create it and the pros and cons of it.
Technology workshop:
The College of Education provided the student teachers diverse workshops and conferences during the semester. One was about the diverse apps that can be used in classroom. The presenter taught us about a dozen of them, one of them was ClassDojo, the app that I implemented in my classroom and it has been AMAZING!
In addition we received a workshop about bullying and how it should handled and prevented. This is a very important topic in the era we are living in.
Writing in the Digital Era: 5-11 Public Relations conducted a workshop on writing in the digital age and how to do it successfully. This workshop was coordinated by me for the aforementioned student organization. The presenters were Clara Villamán and Miss Gala, both recognized "bloggers".
ClassDojo: Connecting with parents and students
Workshop about integration of technology in the classroom given by me and two colleagues. It as given to the UPR Elementary School professors.
The tool was created after hundreds of teachers were surveyed and reported that discipline management was their biggest challenge in the classroom. Class Dojo provides positive reinforcement and encouragement in the classroom instead of discipline and punishment. It has gone viral with tens of thousands of users in dozens of countries and is now available in several languages. It has evolved from a website to a mobile application that teachers, parents and students can easily access from anywhere.
This has been an amazing tool in the classroom! I am always communicating with the parents and students, I am able to post reviews, reminders and special projects on the class story and the teacher tools are super useful.
