Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP) was established on 15 January 1975. At the time of its establishment, it was known as the Faculty of Educational Services in line with its primary function then. It offered courses to students enrolled in the Diploma of Science with Education and Bachelor of Science with Education (Honours) programs, which included elective and general courses taken by students from various faculties at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.
Beginning in 1976, FPP started offering its own academic programs, starting with the Bachelor of Education in Agricultural Science and the Bachelor of Education in Home Science. In the early 1980s, FPP expanded its programs to include Bachelor of Education in the fields of Guidance and Counselling, Teaching of Malay Language as a First Language, Teaching of English as a Second Language, and Physical Education.
At its inception, FPP consisted of only three (3) departments: the Department of Education, the Department of Social Sciences, and the Department of Languages. In 1989, FPP underwent a structural change when two of its departments — the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Languages — formed new faculties. The Department of Social Sciences merged with the Department of Human Development from the Faculty of Agriculture to form the Faculty of Human Ecology, while the Department of Languages merged with the Department of Communication from the Centre for Extension and Continuing Education to form the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.
In 1996, with the inclusion of the Department of Extension Education, FPP had two departments: the Department of Education and the Department of Extension Education. In 1997, the Department of Extension Education was renamed the Department of Professional Development and Continuing Education.
In 2002, FPP underwent another structural reorganization. Six new departments were established as part of a restructuring of the Department of Education. The new departments were:
Department of Foundations of Education
Department of Language and Humanities Education
Department of Human Movement and Behavioural Studies
Department of Science and Technical Education
The Department of Professional Development and Continuing Education remained unchanged. In 2004, further restructuring resulted in the Department of Human Movement and Behavioural Studies being split into two departments: the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Department of Sports Studies.
The faculty plays a key role in producing teachers for secondary schools and officers responsible for human resource development. Currently, FPP offers Bachelor of Education degrees in the fields of Agricultural Science, Home Science, Physical Education, Teaching of Malay Language as a First Language, Teaching of English as a Second Language, and Guidance and Counselling.
In addition to the Bachelor of Education, FPP also offers a Bachelor of Science (Human Resource Development) aimed at producing human resource development officers to serve in government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations.
The faculty also offers a Diploma in Youth in Development Work program, aimed at producing youth workers. This program began in 1999 and is conducted via distance learning over a period of two years. It also serves as a feeder program for the B.S. (HRD) degree. Graduates of this diploma program have promising career prospects in organizations and communities, with roles such as Youth and Sports Assistant Officer, Youth and Sports Officer, Assistant Counselling Officer, Assistant Community Development Officer, and Assistant Welfare Officer.
