Dusun Humphrey has an area of 6.6 hectares and is planted with various fruit trees, herbal and aquatic plants. Before 1967, this Dusun was known as Dusun Tani Serdang. The Vice President of the United States, Sir Hubert Humphrey and accompanied by the Minister of Information, Mr. Senu Abdul Rahman and the American Ambassador to Malaysia, Sir James D. Bell, visited Dusun Tani on 3 November 1967, in conjunction with his visit to Serdang Agricultural College, the name of Universiti Putra Malaysia at that time. While at Dusun Tani, Sir Hubert Humphrey had the opportunity to taste rambutan and lime and he praised the deliciousness of rambutan. At the event, Sir Hubert Humphrey was presented with lime, sweet lime and Dutch durian. Following that event, the Acting Principal of Serdang Agricultural College, Mr. Mohamed Rashid bin Ahmad announced the name of Dusun Tani as Dusun Humphrey in conjunction with the Vice President's visit.
The objective of establishing Dusun Humphrey was to be a location for collecting rare and unknown fruit tree species for commercialization. In addition, the fruit trees in this orchard can be used as research and study materials by students, lecturers, individuals and related agencies. In addition, the Humphrey Grove also functions to preserve and maintain the greenery of the area at UPM and is an attraction to enhance the aesthetic value of UPM.
The Humphrey Grove is one of the interesting places to visit at UPM. This orchard is divided into 5 zones, namely the Rare Zone, Heritage Zone, Mango Grove Zone, Herb and Scholar Zone and Aquatic Zone. There are more than 50 species of fruit trees in this orchard, including rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), Bali lime (Citrus maxima), musk lime (Citrus microcarpa), cempedak (Artocarpus integer), ciku (Manilkara zapota), durian (Durio zibethinus), bamboo starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi), butternut (Diospyros discolor), petai (Parkia speciosa), rambai (Baccaurea motleyana), mango (Mangifera indica), Dutch durian (Annona muricata) and many more. In addition, there are plants that have medicinal and health benefits such as key flower (Boesenbergia rotunda), joke flower (Curcuma zanthorrhiza), broken glass (Strobilanthes crispus), and elephant trunk (Clinacanthus nutans). Aquatic plants around the orchard pond consist of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), kiambang (Pistia stratiotes) and yam bunting (Eichhornia crassipes) which were used as study samples by students and lecturers at UPM.
