Last August 14, 2024, the UP Personality and Individual Differences Research Laboratory (UPIRL) continued its roundtable discussion regarding the recently released 2022 PISA Results on creative thinking. Led by Dr. Adrianne John Galang, the event took place in Room 209A, Lagmay Hall. It brought together a distinguished group of attendees, including UPIR laboratory members, Dr. Greg del Pilar, Dr. Christie Sio, Prof. Marie Rose Morales, Prof. Kathlyn Caragay, and Prof. Cielo Gozar; Prof. Louie Cagasan Jr. from UPD Department of Education, as well as UPD Department of Psychology graduate students Nisha Ma. Nimfa Alicer, Maria Gwyneth Meneses, and Mariah Geneva Juan.
The second roundtable discussion commenced with a recapitulation of the key points of the earlier roundtable discussion, which included the psychometrics of the measurement used, particularly the validity, and reliability of the assessment tools utilized in PISA 2022. This launched an in-depth conversation regarding the language used in the test and its administration. Moreover, the value of measuring creativity was then explored, with an emphasis on the Big-C and Little-c creativity.
Along with further points regarding the validity and reliability of the assessment tools utilized, the group highlighted the aspect of authenticity of said measurement. The participants also expressed the relevance of public consultation and explored the nature of creativity and the facets of investigating it. They further outlined several recommendations regarding the enhancement of test validity to improve the assessment of Filipino creative thinking skills, which will enhance learning outcomes and better reflect the realities of Filipino students.
The event exemplified the unending commitment of UPIRL to engaging in meaningful discourse on educational assessments and their impact, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts among educators, researchers, and policymakers in addressing the challenges faced by the Philippine education system.
