Visual Journal Project
What is a Visual Journal?
A Visual Journal is a growing documentation and ever-evolving study of your daily life as an artist, creating works of art in a sketchbook-like format that involves getting thoughts and experiences down on the paper using a variety of mediums.
Visual Journals are a work of art in and of itself.
Some of the functions include:
Recording feelings or emotions
Attempting a new technique or skill
Recording thought processes during a period of time
Organizing ideas for a full project
Please watch the videos for a better idea on how to start, work on, and complete your visual journal... the first one involves washes over the paper to get started, the second one involves a variety of ways to incorporate "thought bubbles" using watercolor pencils, the third one incorporates text and writing as a graphic element, and the fourth one uses collage, image transfers, and transitional spaces between thoughts and pages.
Question to ponder: what method(s) engage your interest the most? Which techniques or materials are you just not fond of? Are there any materials or tools not used in any of the videos that you would be excited to try?
YOUR ONGOING VISUAL JOURNAL PROJECT
During the course of this Drawing II semester, you will keep up to date on your OWN visual journal. Keep in mind, there is no right or wrong way to do this! All the videos above include a variety of methods and thoughts on how to do it, but ultimately it's up to you how and what you want to record your thoughts, emotions, feelings, goals, techniques, methods, and ideas. So, consider this an ongoing final project with the entire BOOK being the completed project. The pacing is up to your discretion based on your current work-life situation; however, I would recommend you attempt to complete one page a week to stay on target. Also, the book you get is up to you, but please get a book that is more than 20 pages (that way if you need to skip a page once in a while because of the materials you use, you can do that easily). **If you have trouble purchasing a book, please see me and we can work it out!
