This unsettling appropriation of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Lady With an Ermine" with Giger’s futuristic Sci Fi style, generates questions about the past and the future and their connections. Da Vinci's "Lady With an Ermine," is serene and calming but seen through the eyes of Giger, it becomes something grotesque. This recontextualization of Da Vinci's art forces the viewer to think about how technology affects the way we see things. This artwork asks many questions such as:" "Was she once human?" "Where is she?" "How did she get here?" Her skeleton mouth seems to have a sort of crooked smile; I used this to make her seem like something evil or scary.
Task P1: Answer the prompts below
Give your work a thought-provoking title
Provide information about the work you have appropriated
Describe how you change the original work
Explain how the changes you made communicate a new meaning.
Explain how a contemporary audience might interpret your work . You can provide two points of view
Use art terminology studied in this unit in your statement such as : appropriation, parody, re-contextualization
Add 2-3 sentences about how you have developed as an artist. Reflection questions to guide these sentences:
What do you like about your final artwork?
How have my skills improved over time?
What techniques have I learned and mastered? Have I experimented with different styles or mediums?
If you were creating this artwork again, what would you change?
