Look at the Hanoi is... illustration competition. Discuss your favourite artwork and take a screenshot and put it in your process journal. Write about what you think the work 'captures a perspective of a particular time and place.
Think about a particular place that you have a strong emotional connection to. This might be your grandmother's house, a favourite tree you like to sit under, a corner of your own home or a favourite holiday destination. In your process journal draw a picture from your memory or from a photograph and explain how that place makes you feel, what it smells or sounds like. Explain its personal significance to you.
In your process journal answer the following :

Look at the artists below or find your own contemporary artist that captures a perspective of a particular time and place.
Paste the image of the artwork in your process journal
Describe the visual features of the work

and aesthetic choices.
Draw an idea that you generated from looking at the work.
Prepare materials. Phathlo Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Magenta, Payne grey, Titanium White
Sketch blue plastic chair
Create colour swatch and label each mix for reference
Watch video and paint chair using at least five different shades of blue
Paint the background ( draw rectangle first) a contrasting colour and write about
For extension add shadow
Explain what you learnt about mixing colours and how foreground impacts background colours

Think about perspective- both physical and psychological
Option 1: Take a series of photographs that capture ‘a sense of place’ in your neighbourhood or even around your own home.
Look for scenes or objects that might be strong symbols of that place. For example, motorbikes, blue plastic chairs, a favourite coffee shop.
Take photographs from different camera angles: close up, long shot, angle shot, bird's eye view, ants eye view and panoramic.
Look for light shadow and reflection
Options 2 : For students who have not taken any photographs due to COVID 19 restrictions, you can select four images from the following
In your process journal draw 2-4 images. You can copy the image or play around with different compositions.
When selecting your photo, consider images that have something in the foreground middle ground background. Look for vertical or horizontal lines that divide the painting and guide the viewer's eyes. Look for images that have light and shadow.
You don't have to include all details you can edit your image. You can crop, explore different canvas shapes.

Use art vocabulary when writing about your work
Foreground, middle ground, background cropping overlapping, symbolic close- up, bird's eye view, ants eye view light and shadow, perspective, interior, exterior

Explain how the artist has used colour to create a mood of a feeling of a place.
Generate three colour palettes and in your digital process journal explain how different colour pallets create different moods or feelings.
Paint colour swatches in your book
Take a photograph of your work every lesson to track your progress.
Select 6 process images of your painting and describe the decisions you made, problems you encountered and how you resolved them ( what you learnt).
Use subject-specific terminology such as foreground, middle ground background, cropping, overlapping, balance, composition, colour pallet, outline, mid-tone, highlights, shadows detail texture, patterns, brushstroke, emphases
Give your work a tile
Explain why you selected the subject matter and what personal significance it has to you?
Explain what particular perspective of Hanoi you were trying to capture in your work?
Explain how you used signs and symbols as well as aesthetic choices to help to communicate your intentions?
Describe how audience members might interpret your work i.e. what thoughts or feelings your work might elicit?
