What is contour line drawing?
Defines the edge or outline of an object.
Today we are going to practice contour line drawing. (both blind and non-blind).
Include these drawings in your Process Journal.

Foundations: workspace, mindset and level exercises
Seeing edges (blind and non-blind contour line drawings)
Symbolic vs. Realistic drawing (quick drawings, reflect)
Seeing relationships with other objects (negative space and using an anchor object when drawing)
Seeing mass tonal drawing using shading (highlights, midtones, shadows)
flat, neat, clutter free surface, well lit, organized materials (avoid getting up)
silent, focused drawing time.
Talking makes you “blind” to seeing, including teacher talking.
Relax your mind and eyes.

We have learned symbols for things from an early age. At times we have to fight these symbols when observation drawings. Take time to OBSERVE, LOOK and SEE what you are drawing.

Developmentally, students are at an age where opinions about drawing skills are formed. It is am important time to embrace the ability to draw.

As humans, we are so conditioned to focus on the object in front of us. As artists, it is important to see the spaces between and around the objects. These spaces are important and hold relative location and proportions that do not exist in the objects themselves. Learning to see and draw the shapes between the lines that make up an object with help you correctly render your subject.
