Universitas Malikussaleh (Unimal) in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, regularly organizes the "Plant Design Competition" (Chemical Plant Design Competition). This competition aims to hone students' skills in designing efficient and environmentally friendly chemical plants. Some editions of the competition that have been held include:

1. National Plant Design Competition III 2021 - This competition was held in 2021 with a focus on designing efficient and environmentally friendly plants (Unimal News).

2. National Plant Design Competition 2019 - This was the second edition of the competition, which had previously been held in 2016. The event aimed to evaluate the quality of student designs and see if they met industry standards (Unimal News).

3. National Plant Design Competition and Industry Fair 2019 - This event not only included a plant design competition but also an industrial exhibition held at the GOR ACC Cunda Building, Lhokseumawe. The event also featured public lectures and industrial visits (Unimal News).

In each edition of this competition, besides students, academics, and practitioners, high school students from around Lhokseumawe and North Aceh are also invited to watch the competition, with the aim of increasing their interest in the Chemical Engineering study program (Unimal News).
